Default Player Naming Restrictions (#of Letters/ Space ?)

hi

Well its just a minor thing (more or less), its about the possibilities for Player Names in RO:O 41-45.

Since with the Mod, you can only use a limited amount of Letters (about 16 i guess), will it be possible to use more letters in RO:O or will it be the same amount.

Another thing is that i would like to be able to do, is putting Spaces into a Name and not to be forced to write Gefreiter_Mueller for example but Gefreiter Mueller.

If this already is in the Game i'm happy, if not i can live with a shorter Name

Sorry for any wrong spelled Words and such, but English ain't my native tongue.

/salute

How about some preventive measures to prevent (hehe) users from having names like "." or "_" or " " those are really annoying, players are people, especially in RO and they should have a name...

I'd like to not see names like (Just an example, cough cough): |ÐéāThMǽ§TÊR|

So, special symbols are a no-no in my book, apart from accents and umlauts(sp?).

The names in the mod are so restricted, I hate not being able to use spaces...I hope this has changed!

Yeah that's a problem, if special Characters are allowed, but i guess there is a way around it, just a matter of Dev Time avaible.

But even with the old Naming Conventions you could go like ((((((((]]]], but who's going to do that ? Except the occassional Moron.

ǽ <--- This fo example is a Letter used in some Languages (though old ones iirc)

And Umlaute would be really nice if one could use them, gimme ä, ü, ö and ß , since i am German i'd like to use these Characters mostly found in german (though other related languages have em too). But as usual i could live without the, only thing is that some German Ranks have Umlaute so it would be nice to get them, it won't be game-breaking if they are not included.

players with names like that are so hard to kick off the server using console
which often seems exectly the reason they have those types or names.
so they can be *** hates and get away with it.

There's several games/mods where that is a big issue because you use the color of the players name for IFF purposes..
Last I checked, the RO mod didn't ever display opposing side player's names,.. so beyond the un-reality of talking to Mr ".", it's not such a bad thing.. (think of it as making it super easy to type 'kickban .' in the console

.. besides.. can we really say that there that much of a difference between talking to players named things like 'Sasquatch' and 'UncleDrax' then there is talking to someone named '.' or '_'.. there is no level of reality in either.. (psst.. I'm neither a Uncle, nor myname Drax IRL.., and I'm pretty sure there isn't really the (in?)famous Sasquatch of the Pacific Northwest USA working on level design... but I can't say for sure )

I am pretty sure that our Sassie s called Sasquatch Y. Bigfoot with fullname (his initial being Yeti)... and that he is quite a large hairy fellow.

Friends may call him Chewbacca though

I'd like to see some pattern matching for names in the Ostfront server, especially if the admin can then define disallowed names. Some idiots like to play with really offensive names and it'd be nice to just define a list of words that are off-limits.

Come on this isn´t some sort of rpgs where stupid names should be forbidden. After all its "just" a shooter. If someone calls himself "General Feldmarschall Lars-Rupold von Hasselbrecht" but plays on the russian side there is no need to change his name for "roleplay".
IF names should be kept authentic, clantags ect. should be forbidden, too.
(Too bad there are no brits involved on the eastern front. I guess "Murphy" could go to hell with such an rpg-namefilter-method)

My suggestion is, that this desicion should be kept to the server admins. If someone has a name that offends you for some reason (be it that is too short, too long or that your mother got killed by someone with the same name...) you can always ask him to change it and if he doesn´t you could ask an admin to help you.

Steam IDs make it easy to ban people, so I imagine this will be the same with RO.

I've seen a player of the mod with the name "Juden_Massacre", that's what I meant by offensive. If you want to call yourself "Murphy rhymes with Smurfy" I couldn't care less.

The only filter for these types of unsensible morons is Admin Control and permanent Banns.

Yeah. Agreed. Those names should be banned. But not by a filter since Jude isn´t a swearword and should not be forbidden. I don´t think Massacre makes sense in player names, but I don´t see any sense in "Deathmaster" either.

The only method to work against offensive morons (not only restricted to the "names" discussion) are good admins.
