Default Who here bought a WWII gun because of RO?

NOTE (and big huge disclaimer): When I say "because of RO" above - please don't take that to mean "RO and Tripwire made me do it and I am now a gun-toting psycho due to their mindcontrolling subliminal messages".

It's just a short way of saying the following: "RO's realism, types of weapons, or implementation of those weapons inspired me to search out the real thing and purchase one for collecting or fun."

I'm really curious what effect RO has had and how many it has inspired to buy a weapon used in-game.

I know that before I'd played RO, I'd never even heard of a Mosin Nagant - and now I own two (a 91/30 and a very nice M44), plus a post-war SKS and Makarov pistol. I'm trying to get my hands on a Mosin sniper now, and have been eyeing Nagant revolvers, P38's and Tokarev pistols.

I already owned some of the firearms in the game and they helped convince me to buy the game!

I can't say I've bought one because of RO....yet. RO did help renew my interest in an SVT40 though. I had planned to get one before playing RO, it just moved it up a bit on my list and I started pricing them again. I just happened to ask at the right place and stumbled into a nice vet bring back.

If/when I buy a TT-33, then I can say I bought a gun because of RO.

Well since you only made 70 dollars i would think the Mosin would be the only option or a Carcano

Can we have an option for 'we already owned ww2 firearms pre-ro'?

I'm going to be getting a Mosin Nagant M91/30 Laminate from Tula for 100, and a Russian SKS for around the 350 range. I'd have to credit both Red Orchestra and Enemy at the Gates for wanting to buy them.

Because of an interest that has stemmed from playing RO, I've turned from a non gun owner who has never fired a rifle, to an owner of an Mauser K98k, Mosin Nagant 9130, and Yugo SKS.

Yo, that dealer you went to has really great deals and looks like he has nice guns. Is he as reputable as he seems?

LOL, to be totally honest I purchased my Kar98 because of CoD. My dad got me into guns at a very early age (he was a gunsmith himself), but it was deffinately CoD that persuaded me to add a Kar98 to our collection. Go figure...

Eh, you've gotta come play with some of these toys. There isn't nearly as much violence out there as our media would have you believe. You just have to realize that in America, the "news" motto is "If it bleeds, it leads."

WW2 influenced my semi-auto purchase... but this was years before RO.
I bought a Springfield M1A-A1 [the civilian version of the M-14,with the scout barrel] because it seemed to be the evolution of the Garand+BAR... same basic action as the Garand but with a detachable 20 round magazine...like the BAR.

I prefer my M1A to my cousins AR-15 H-Bar. Its .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO can do some serious damage, much more than .223 from the AR-15.

I would like to pick up a 1911 .45 from Springfield too. I have an H&K USP .40 but I would like to have a solid steel frame.. better for pommeling

RO makes me want a K98, STG44, and a G43 in my collection.

I voted "No interest".
Been in the army for 4 years and I think guns are overrated. Lost interest after the 3rd time on the firing range.
Every time I got my hands on a "new" weapon (as in, not fired before) it was interesting though. Specially the FN MAG (m240 for the Yanks) was nice.

Well, for some people that's true, like for the guy that will spend $1500 on a new "plastic" rifle, and then spend another $5000 upgrading it with toys like laser sights, tactical lights, triple scope mounts, and who knows what else - just so he can look cool at the range. This is the same guy who tricks out his car with $20,000 in sound system, rims, and other crap like he's got something to prove.

But for others... let's just say a dirty, old, cosmoline-encrusted $59.99 Mosin Nagant isn't exactly a "phallic substitute" (though it fits the "long and hard" part...). I enjoy reading about history, but these guns actually helped shape it, for better or for worse. My Mosin Nagant 1944 was made in 1945 - maybe it was there when the Reichstag fell. My 91/30 was made in 1936 - it may have served in the hands of a brave Soviet strelok trying to hold back Barbarossa, or maybe in the hands of an NKVD lackey who took a role in the Soviet purges or farm collectivazation of the 1930's, or in the hands of a rifleman fighting his way into Germany in 1944. Who knows?

History is shaped by men, but weapons and pens are the tools that do the sculpting.
