Suggestions:

1. Clear your internet cache.

2. Reset your router/modem.

3. Delete all your porn.

I think that currently, Red Orchestra 2 does at some point requests a HUGE amount of information, thus causing your router to be overflooded and lock itself in order to be in a working state again.
I would have to guess that this mostly has to do with a bug in the server browser, though I have no confirmation of that.

This happens to me too. No idea what causes it, but it's annoying.

Some routers have a rule that will shut off the internet connection for a period of time if you receive packets on a certain port.

Looks like Tripwire are sending their heroin shipments to the wrong dock again!

Possible, but how come it only happens to RO2 and not to any other game. Though I must honestly admit, that since the last few patches this hasn't been an issue for me.

Maybe the game uses different ports than other games?

This might help, did for me. Might be another issue for you though. Try the video too but you might want to skim through it:

Taken from the Steam FAQ at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...1452-HCVB-6984 and amended slightly.
  1. Click on "Start", then select "Run", or if run is not present type it into the search box, type "cmd" and press Enter or click "Ok". This will bring up a command prompt.
  2. Type "telnet speedtouch", or if that doesn't work then type "telnet 192.168.1.254". * **
  3. You will be prompted to login to the modem with a username/password. The default is one of the following: Username: Administrator
Password: None (leave this field blank)
    OR:
    Username: admin
    Password: admin
If neither of those combinations work, please contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance.
  4. Once you have logged in, you will be presented with the command line of your modem. This is where you must enter the following commands:
    • Type connection bindlist and press enter. This will list connection bindings.
    • Look for a line that contains "GAME" and some port numbers. For example: GAME(UDP) udp 27010-27011
    • Enter the command :connection unbind application=GAME(UDP) port=27010-27011 and press enter. The port numbers in this command must match the numbers that are listed in your GAME port listing, similar to the example above.
  5. Try joining a KF game and see if that fixes things. You will have to issue the command saveall to save the changes.
* Note that if the IP address of your router is different then this won't work. To find out what your router's IP address is, open up a command prompt (type cmd into the search or run box as before) and type ipconfig. This should show your currently connected network connection - the router's address should be under "default gateway". If you can't see this, try "ipconfig /all" without quotes. This will bring up all network adapters so you will have more to look through, but you should be able to find it.

** If you do not have telnet installed and get an error message (it isn't installed on Vista and 7 as default), you can either install it through the programs and features -> turn windows features on or off section, or you can use Putty - http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html . Run it, and in the IP address type the router's IP address and select the telnet box, then click open.

I'm not sure if this will cure the router restarting, but after I did this to my test HomeHub it worked fine and didn't reboot at all.

Woulfe posted a video tutorial that covers it here:

What port would that be, then?

Windows 7 has a 20 concurrent connection limit. It's an anti-worm feature that triggers when you flood the same port with so many connections at once it causes it to lock down your internet for a few minutes. You can't disable it without running a TCI-IP crack because it's hard-coded into the OS.

Are you sure about that. I'm running Win 7 here at work and at home, and I don't get it in either location.

Actually I'm wrong.

Took me about two seconds to figure it out on my Linksys router.

There's an option for NAT FILTERING and it was set to Secure which is an anti-DOS feature. I turned it to OPEN (which disables it) and it works fine now.

I have noticed on my old and would-rust-if-it-was-metal Netgear wifi-router, when RO2 first fired up the server list, since it's trying to talk to hundreds of servers at the same time.. it'd end up flooding out the NAT/PAT tables, causing my router to reboot.
My solution to the problem was go get around and finish setting up my Cisco 1811 router.. but that's an expensive option for most people... perhaps a firmware update might fix it for most users though?

You can also slow down the rate at which the data comes in by lowering your "Connection Speed" in Steam down to 56k. But some routers will still get flooded out...

I'm beginning to wonder if my Netgear router is the cause of my server browser problems returning 0 servers if I hit refresh, and it only working again after several minutes.

Hmmmm.....

It would be as I have the same issue. I've learnt to avoid it by doing the following:
1) use the steam browser if possible
2) Only hit refresh when the entire server list is loaded
3) don't change tab until the above has occurred also
