That's not a problem, since you could just make the wire-layer role playable and make the phone unusable until your team's wire-layers have strung a new line from the frontline phone to your base-phone.

Cant we (for the sake of argument that RO:HoS is a video game) keep it simple, and pretend that in those harsh times, both Axis and Allies, just happened to be using same frequency?

He's suggesting phones, which means land-lines, not radios.

Hishnick that link you provided was for a russian field phone not a wireless or radio set. I think you are confusing the two. Russians did not have a viable portable radio set till late 43 and only in small numbers and ironically it was built in the states and provided via lend lease. It Worked in RO1 and I dont see why it would not work in RO2 but if it bothers everyone that much then don't play on those realism servers with the new modded maps that will be out in the next few months.

Field phones were used in prepared defensive positions with preregistered artillery. Would be interesting to use this feature when on defense. But, the radio in game seems like a field phone anyways. The artillery lands so quick like that it seems like prereg fire, too.

You're right, i did confuse the two, but as you said yourself, they had some, even though it was built elsewhere, and leased... Does it matter how they procured it?
The main reason i'm against it, is because i really like having ability to hear the opposite teams moves over the current setup (http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...ad.php?t=70321)

Vesper, yes for clandestine purposes as stated not for a front line unit. You have to remember in 41/42 the TOE for a Soviet inf BN had only 1 Radio and that was actually for back-up in case the field phones failed so they could communicate with higher. Yes I do like being able to hear the enemy call arty but as the game matures I am sure we will begin to see more variations on this just like in Darkest Hour.

Squad Leader: you are right in real life especially for the russians it would take a long time to call in Arty. The Germans usually attached field guns to inf companies and would use a direct line to the company/platoons to support them with fire, it was fast accurate, and deadly.

Oh and I used to play ASL eons ago....

Stalingrad got highest priority from NKVD, they could get their hands on a few radios.

Vesper yes agreed, I am sure they had tactical radios in key locations or even vehicle radios dismounted. I am sure as the game matures we will see portable (manpack type) radios as a mod much like the one used in DH. The radio operator class adds a whole new aspect to gaming. Also just dont think we will have these stock maps forever, there will be maps similar to Berazina and similar ones with trenches, grainfields, large fields of fire, room for vehicle maneuver, etc...
