Default What am I doing wrong here?

I'm new to RO, but not new to this kind of game. I've been using the MG34, and I'm confused why it's seemingly so lacking. I don't expect it to be a 1-hit kill, but I'm having to nail people a BUNCH of times to kill them. Seems like hit detection issues more than anything. Is this a true assumption? My shots are accurate, and I'm only bursting 3-5 bullets at a time to keep the recoil down and accuracy steady. Seems pointless when I can use a bolt-action and 1 hit kill everyone. My ping was 55 also, so my connection didn't seem to be bad. What gives?

Probably slight hit-detection bug still in the game. It'll get fixed soon no doubt.

It was far worse halfway in beta where you could empty half a PPSH clip into someone and hit only once. From 5 meters.

Also there is delayed death in game.. so your 1st hit might well have killed them without you realising. It depends where you hit them.

Yeah I've seen that and I'm okay with that, but I'm talking I nail them and they are STILL running around. This is after a nice burst-and-a-half into them.

I have had this happen, it is very frustrating thing to happen but it happens in all games I have played. Sometimes it feels like the aiming is off centre in this game as well, but it's hard to tell in a fast paced MP game.

Go for headshots, cuts down on the shots needed. Make sure to hold shift to zoom in!

Red Orchestra 2 - Machine Gunner Gameplay [HD] - YouTube - Sorry for if it seems like I'm spamming this link. I posted it in the other MG thread but it shows good spots and how to stay on the move and keep an eye out for enemy snipers/riflemen.

^ I've started to do really well now. For whatever reason - it seems to have better hit detection if I dial in the gun 400 meters (don't ask why, just try it and you'll see what I mean) when I'm really only @ 200. Either that, or I single fire the weapon and it does well.

Otherwise i'd advice to keep spraying, short bursts aren't that effective on most maps, so just keep pounding them untill it stops moving.
Spraying does absolutely nothing for hitting them, especially if they're moving. My ping at it's worst is around 85. I average less than that - even with all the issues everyone is having. I SHOULD be able to burst 3-6 bullets at a time and kill someone with it. I'm generally forced to shoot in semi-auto because bursting is worthless unless they are 1-60 meters away.. otherwise it's a huge waste of bullets, and asking to get killed while reloading.
