Hi,
I have no answers, yet, but do offer some hope..... I was also finding this game unplayable with fps somewhere between 20-30 FPS regardless of the level I set graphics quality to. Specs: WinXP 32bit, Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3Ghz, Nvidia 560, 4GB RAM. I went intot he NVidia control panel and, specifically for RO2, set anything to do with antialiasing OFF, turned threaded optimisation ON After this fairly random tweaking, I was able to play the grain silo map at 70 - 90 FPS with FoV at 70 and all quality settings at MEDIUM (apart from low shadows). No .ini tweaks involved. I'll try and post all my NVidia control panel settings later. |

The FPS Dipping/Changing. It never stays at a STATIC number no matter what happens. And it's honestly VERY annoying. Alot of people have this problem, Once you actualy see how many do have this problem. It's hard to say " It's just my computer " I dont know why they took the UT3 engine. The engine itself hasn't been the most optimized thing ever. Im off to RO: Ostrfront until Red Orchestra 2 completely comes out. |

Read my post over here. By changing the Sound setting in the ini you can almost double or even triple your FPS and even have a steady number.
You must check the box for 1 frame lag and framerate smoothing and you'll be golden at 30+ solid FPS. Obviously better with better hardware. If you uncheck these two boxes and do the Sound change you can have 100+ FPS but the fluctuation from that to 50 will be very noticeable. Read Here: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...ad.php?t=60772 Look for my posts from the middle to the last post about SOUND and how you can tweak for your own settings to get a happy number. It has disorted just about every sound, I barely hear myself breathe. Hear other people shoot and such. Its rather pain in the ***. I appriciate your help tough. It's very kind of you guys. ![]() Edit: I dont seem to be able to go back to 32 channels. It always goes back to 8 now. So my sound is always messed up .. So much for tweaking. It really is strange, your specs shouldn't runs the game so poorly. My specs:
AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2ghz 4gb DDR3 ATI HD5570 (worse than a NVidia 9800gtx) Windows 7 64bits Running with everything on Medium, no tweaks on .ini, no AA. Here the performance on every map after the patch is 60 when looking at close walls, 50-40 indoors and 30 outdoors. Before the patch i managed to get a slightly better performance after cleaning the PC, my C: drive was almost full so i removed many programs to give room for the Virtual Memory, cleaned temp folders and many things.

The issues turn people off and people dont have time for this. Thus they stop playing it. I noticed that MOST servers were actualy quite empty. |

(I have not read all the posts in this thread)
I have a lot better specs than the OP, but my FPS was still all over the place and changing the settings in the in-game menus didnt do much. If anything, the FPS would only be worse if I lowered the graphic settings. However, by config tweaking I managed to get a stable 70-100 fps with Ultra set in-game. It runs smooth and it is still looking awesome so im really enjoying it. http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2094647 I hope this helps anyone in this thread. It shouldnt matter if your specs are good or bad it should still give you a great FPS boost.

You can go back to the same file and re-edit the file it will take you back up - try going to 16 I found this to be a happy medium. As I state in my other post you can play with the Video settings after changing the Sound in the file and you can run from the console by using ~ then type stat fps - when you change the settings some video settings make you have to restart the game others don't but when you go back out to the menu you'll see what kind of FPS you are getting and tweak accordingly. Setting to HIGH and removing the framesmoothing and 1 frame lag, I also always uncheck bloom. You should see very high FPS in menu and should get half that in game.

Try disabling any sound-effects in your souncardsoftware like the equalizers, and try changing the soundrate back to 16 bits from 24 bits. It all helps

Oh, try the 260.99 drivers (I know theyre old), I get better FPS with it then with the latest NVDIA driver. Also everything on low, around 25 fps outside and 35-50 fps inside.

I just so happened to stumble over this old post. Read the last one and you'll see what us RO original players have known all along. Check out it's post date...
Anyway 30+ steady is perfect in this game as well. http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...ead.php?t=2955 |

hello that's right with play mod 3.3 (november 2005) the fps did not exceed 30 fps with 800x600 minimum recommended configuration. In 2006 to RO1 pc 1280x1024 30fps minimum. The U is resource intensive and the EU3 not no exception. What is missing is a bit more optimization work to Tripwire sorry for rough translation |

Maybe you are happy with your 30FPS, but lots of people aren't. I'm not happy with my 20-30FPS either (at lowest settings)! With a four/five year old pc I might be happy, but not with my X4 955 CPU and a 5850. This PC should be able to play this game even on higher settings with more FPS. The fact, that it doesn’t even run well on the lowest possible settings shows that the performance is “suboptimal” right now. I hope it will be better in the release version. (which comes out in about 30 hours …) If it isn’t any better, Brink will happen again (Yes, I still think Brink is a good game, like RO2 is, but the first impression is the important one). Yes, I personally don't need 80FPS but if the FPS drops below 40 it doesn't feel fluent enough for me to really enjoy the game. Also important: I play games for my personal pleasure. I don't need to play RO2 if it doesn't run well on my pc. I could try to get a refund and play a different game (with more than 40FPS). |

CPU: i7-720 1.6GHz (turbo to 2.8GHz)
GPU: GTX280M (1024MB GDDR3, 583MHz core, 1450MHz shader, 950MHz memory; 280.26 drivers) RAM: 4GB Windows 7 x64 Home Premium 1920 x 1080 res I get 30-35fps max on Spartakovka and CommissarHouse. That's barely enough to get hits with the DP-28 which is very sensitive to frame rate - I notice that before I updated drivers to 280.26, when I used to get 20-25fps on all maps, I couldn't hit any crossing target with DP-28. Now I have 30-35 frames I can actually hit crossing targets! Surely this system (even given it's a laptop) isn't so bad that I can't squeeze a few more frames? How do I set up GPU logging - I'd like to record utilisation to see if it's the game or just my system? |
