Thanks for the tip Xgear it seems to have solved my problem... I just finished a whole round on Barracks with no crash.
Lets hope it lasts!

Haven't crashed for few hours after changing shadows from low to high. Used to crash every 5-10 minutes.

Turning up the shadows from low to medium ment I got a whole match on Red October and two rounds on Barracks before a CTD...before I only managed 3 mins.

Worked great for me! Used to crash loading Red October Factory and after a minute or two on Barracks.
Played about 5 hours last night without a single crash. Worked for a few dozen clan mates too. |

Don't bother with this setting on account of it doesn't do anything. We're looking into this. |

Core i5 750
4 gigs of RAM Nvidia 8800GTS Win 7 64 That's me. Only after the 2nd patch for maps and such did I get the crashes. I followed all of the changes above more or less in order (including updating my gfx drivers)...and shadows =/= low is what made the difference between guaranteed crash while in game and no crash after 5 hours. I really doubt I was running into a memory issue (at launch, in the server browser, at map load or while in game.)

The bInitializeShadersOnDemand setting will save memory at the risk or pontentially causing some frame rate spikes at runtime. We tested it internally and haven't noticed any perceivable performance concerns. So, I have this default to true on a system running a 32 bit OS or if a system has 2GB of RAM or lower.

My brother was getting slow map deploy times so he changed to this:
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True It helped him for a day as he was loading in much faster. Today it won't even let him launch the game with that set as true. It just sits on the screen with a soldier looking at you and says RO2 etc. Once he turns that to false the game is able to load up fine, but again he has very slow map load times. Is there something he can do to fix this?

setting to '=True' and the low/high/med shadow settings (no matter what I put it on) have not helped the game stop crashing for me.
.. just adding.. |

You're probably already aware, but the problem appears to specifically be DynamicShadows=False. It doesn't seem to be the actual level of shadows that prevents the crashes, it's simply that flag being set to true.

Well I updated RO and now It crashes while it's loading the map like before, back to square one for me

But thanks, that would explain why I need it set to false just to avoid instantly crashing on some maps (Barracks, Pavlov) since I have 32 bit and 2GB ram.

I changed my settings once, now all I'm getting is crashes. Deleted ROEngine, Verified files with steam, nothing works.
Tried this, but it just makes the splash screen stay there and nothing happens. Maybe cos I'm using 64-bit OS. Seems like the game is now utterly broken for me, the usual tricks helped me for awhile but now nothing is working. |
