Default Italian Modification

Introduction
The purpose of this mod is to create additional material for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 in the form of the Italian Front from 1943-1945 with three distinct teams, the Germans, Italians and Americans, as there is a distinct lack of representation for this combat theatre within the gaming world. This mod will be focused on realism and will include a selection of thirty historically accurate weapons, as well as ten different vehicles. As an added feature, it will feature an entirely original music score.

Yes we are aiming to include Canadian forces into this modification. So far they not been given the credit they deserve. Hopefully now the men who lost their lives will be represented in a game.

Canadian troops played a vital role in the 20-month Mediterranean campaign which led to the liberation of Italy during the Second World War. In fact, this campaign was the first large-scale land operation in which the Canadian Army stationed in Great Britain took part.

In this campaign, which was fought in Sicily from July 10 to August 6, 1943 and in mainland Italy from September 3, 1943 to February 25, 1945, the fighting was particularly bitter. The Germans, taking full advantage of mountain peaks and swiftly running rivers, made Allied advance very difficult and costly. There were 25,264 Canadian casualties in the fighting, including more than 5,900 who were killed.

Good luck!

Just a couple of hints:
  • Make a solid game design doc
  • Get a domain with PHP & SQL webspace quickly! (They are pretty cheap these days...)
  • Get yourself an IRC channel! (Preferrably GameSurge, mainly cause the Roosters are there too. )

Fallshirmjager? Yes all units will be historically accurate in regards to uniforms, weapons and maps they are present in. I.e you wont see any units on a map where they were never deployed.

If you get stuck getting photos of the Italian weapons Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers museum has alot of the Italian weapons used in WW1 and WW2. I don tknow if they'll record the weapon sounds or get you better photos for model reference but theres no harm in asking. http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/ they've got one of the largest weapon collections in the world and whats on the site isnt even a quater of what they've got. It spans back to 1500 so you'll be hard pressed to get a better soruce for weapons information.

The Italians didnt actually fight in the Italian campaign as they surrenderd a few days after the invasion of sciliy. However a good website for britich weapons nonetheless!

An irc channel is being set up shortly.
