A playable Alpha? That seems nice. I would like to see what kind of improvements and to what extend they have done. I just hope the improvements to the game/engine (AI, squad menu, editor. animations) are a huge leap forward. If it turns out to be a few slight improvements here and there I would be rather disappointed. Though they are delaying the game, hopefully to make big changes to the core issues in ArmA 2. Fictional vehicles/weapons I can ignore if they actually improved the core game.

The graphics look amazing, the lighting looks far better than ArmA 2, which itself was fine aside from the overly bright HDR affects. I really do fear I will be regulated to running this at low settings with 20-30 frame rates though.

I also hope they release some expansions. I really like the Russia VS USA theme (no matter how over done it is) as both countries are rather comparable military wise. A Vietnam War expansion would be nice to.

Hopefully they will retain rebel/insurgent/militia factions to as I have a lot of fun creating missions with rag tag units.

Don't see how the graphics are drastically improved. For a 2012 pc-exclusive it looks quite disappointing actually. And as with all ArmA games performance will probably be ****

The textures in the screenshot with the jet look just as good as BF3, if not better (comparing it to Operation Firestorm). The trees and bushes look more detailed than BF3 to, and the lighting looks considerably more realistic. BF3 is overly bloomy, especially outside on Metro.

What else are you comparing it to?

I'd like to know what's the standart for a 2012 exclusive is? Am I missing a sneaky Crysis 3 out there? ArmA 3 is definitely one of the best looking games at the moment.

Sorry but no. I look at those screenshots and other screenshots that are available in HD and it doesn't look close to BF3/cryengine3 at all. Just looks like ArmA2 with a tad fancier textures.

Obvious troll is obvious. Either that or you need glasses. The lighting looks substantially different from ArmA 2. I'll playing ArmA 2 as I type this and just finished playing BF3 a few hours ago.

ArmA 3's trees and bushes look better. Might higher resolution textures on them. BF3 by no means looks awful, as it looks good in many respects, but it also looks rather poor in many others.

Many effects in ArmA2 were already outdated at release like the physics which were a joke, smoke effects or pretty much everything at night. The landscapes it portrayed however looked awesome, especcially forest areas. Now the thing is when I play Caspian Border or Paris in SP with everything maxed out and DX11 it feels almost photorealistic. ArmA2 does not anymore. And those screenshots just look meh to me. Certainly not bad, but not on par with BF3/cryengine 3 PC. Additionally those games run fine while looking better whereas ArmA2 still runs ****ty.

Or maybe it's just the colours, idk. Those screenshots are far from foto-realistic imo. Maybe a filter similar to enb mod for GTA4 would help.

look at the picture with the guy in the vehicle.

For once the interiors are detailed, and something you all missed.

THE F***CKING REAR VIEW MIRRORS WORK NOW.

If only they could find a way to make it so bots couldn't see you behind 2d plants and bushes.

You're crediting game engines for rendering pretty things in relatively small areas. ARMA makes sacrifices in its prettyness (however small those sacrifices may be getting) so you can have massively large battlefields. All of which you can go to in real-time and view for literally miles if your PC is beefy enough.

Wholeheartedly agree with all of this, my favorite custom missions were where it was me and 5 other guys with some old AKMs or Enfields out to raid a military outpost in the middle of the night.

But from what i hear, ACE mod is on it, so we might get to live out all of this in ArmA3 yet

I just hope ACE can get a stably version out quickly. I can't play ArmA 2 without ACE.

Same here, its like a different game altogether. Do we know if ArmA3 will support third party islands from ArmA2? Cause I really don't want to lose Mana Island or Capraia

Also I have to admit the 3rd and 4th screenshots up there look almost like Halo or Starship Troopers to me because of those helmets/uniforms.

Can the AI drive reasonably now? I think by ArmA 3 we shouldn't see these happen:
