Default Iron Front: Liberation 1944

German publisher DeepSilver is bringing out an ostfront WW2 game in q4 2011.
The selling point: it uses the ArmA 2 engine. And you can play on both the german and the russian side. Sounds interesting.

Here's info, sadly just in german, but I couldn't find anything in english on it yet. Still, there are three screens in the galllery at the bottom, and they look quite nice.

I've been following Lib 44 as well wondering what's taking them too long. Their stuff was top notch, incredible. I'll be a buyer if they can pull off a nice MP mode, not Domination-Warfare stuff.

They also made one of my favourite vehicle teasers for ArmA :P

They have licensed the BI engine.
Things may just get better.

Not a fan of the tanking system in ArmA myself but I will make an effort in the name of the greatest tank of WWII ...☻......☻...
New ground to tread and conquer brethren.

Hopefully the engine is the only thing both games have in common.

Interesting. Hopefully they can fix all of the quirks with ArmA 2 otherwise I don't see myself (and many) people buying it as it will essentially be the same thing that you can get free via countless other ArmA 2 mods.

If there are no animations to work the bolts on those bolt guns, that would kill the game for me.

Totally agree, plus the potential problem as a player of finding a populated server. With Invasion 1944, which is a pretty nice free mod, I usually see only @ 5 players spread over @ 10 servers. They're going to be trying to lure players from a pretty small group to pony up to buy and play.

Unless they totally change the UI, animations, netcode and complexity, I don't see them converting a lot of other WW2 realism players from other games to playing on that engine.

And I'm not a A2 hater at all, I have a great time with it.

It does look good, but from what I understand with ARMA and its mods, there was mostly coop play and next to no multiplayer. That is a big turn off for a game like this.

I wish them all the best, but this would definitely be a wait and see for me, especially with ROHOS being out there.

If anything, I would hope BIS would get money from licensing the engine so they can further improve ArmA2 / make ArmA 3.

Looking nice so far.

Hopefully they pull it off, mod teams moving onto full retail releases are always nice.

From what I read in the gamestar forums it'll be ArmA WWII and even the faces are the same.

please let this be only rumours

the screens look awesome and the announcements' kinda promising IMO, but if it would be exactly the same gameplay as ArmA2s it would simply ruin the game for me. To me ArmA always felt too clunky. The movement and firefights just didn't feel right, not to mention the horrible command system.

You should read the BI forums there are tonnes of ppl with high end systems that get below 30 fps in one of the big towns with lots of AI. Infact I don't think anyone can run arma on highest settings right now and get a decent frame rate.

Well, that's highly subjective. I can play ArmA 2 in highestd etails with a framreate between 20 and 40, and I do think it's quite good tom play that way. But to some, everything below 60 FPS is not adequate.
