the fat-ness of many reenactors is what spoiled the movie "saints and soldiers" for me, in some scenes where you are supposed to see soldiers from KG peiper 1.ss, basically the uber elite of the german army, tough veterans who have fough non-stop for many years. you see that many figurants are obviously reenactors who brought their own equipment, half of them were fat or really to old and the other half was basically obese.
if i was fat, i would never agree to take part in a movie to portray real soldiers out of respect and dignity

what reenactors do in private is their business, i have no problems at all with that.

I have to disagree, KG Peiper was built up mostly with young inexperienced soldiers (even Luftwaffe groundforces transfered in the WaffenSS). That was also why the "malmady massacre" happened. Not über elite forces.

of all the german units in the ardennes battle, peipers was by far the best equipped,(if not in whole europe) i have been doing alot of research on this for DH ardennes campaigne. yes the KG was built up out of scavenged veteran units. from mostly from the 1.ss leibstandarte and yes luftwaffe groundforces, or fallschirmjagers as they are called, mixed with unexperienced recruits. that's not what i would call second rank troops like the volksgrenadier KG's that operated in the southern part of the battle.

i have yet to see a picture or footage of non-slim soldiers in the ardennes.
even though i suppose that by the end of the war they softened their recruiting standards, you normally needed to be slim, fit, be of a certain height and NOT wear glasses lol.

i have no problem with chubby reenactors at all, but once there is a crowd or worse a movie being filmed, they should themselves have the decency to not take part, or lose weight. they only bring ridicule upon themselves and their hobby un fortunately

Since when Luftwaffe Felddivisiontruppen (or however it is written) =\= Fallschirmjäger?

Yeah, the two get mixed up a lot. The Luftwaffe troops fighting in the Ardennes were definitely not the elite paratroopers seen previously (although I wouldn't be surprised if they were mislabelled for propaganda purposes).

ahum...

how stupid could i be to take these guys for fallshirmjagers, the only luftwaffe "groundforces" serving in peipers KG was a fully motorised luftwaffe Flak battalion, to protect his column from allied aircraft. equipped with stuff like wirbelwind tanks... http://www.ss501panzer.com/Wirbelwind_Stoumont.JPG

peipers tanks continuously carried a battalion of fallschirmjagers around from the FJR6, who actively took part his battles, and played a big role in the capture of stoumont.

You've said what I wanted to post, Lemon.^^

I don't know if it's the good place for this type of thread.

Nice stuff, but aren't you too young to participate to a reenactment? Is it?

If I'm lucky , I will go, the 6th June, to Sainte-Mère-Eglise or in this area. I just begin my collection of 82nd Airborne's paratrooper. Maybe I 'll drop you pics...
