Yeah the .50BMG pistol looks shopped, the mag well is probably long enough, however the chamber is still the size of a pistol round. ( thinking to scale there, wouldent there only be about 1-3 inches of barrel beyond the tip of the round? so much wasted powder to fire a .50BMG out of such a short barrel.

Assassination? I doubt it, the 5.7x28mm cartridge is expensive and relies on velocity, using a suppressor with subsonic ammo seems wasteful when you could just get a .22.

On the other hand it seems like one of the best fighting pistols in the world for those confident in their shot placement; less recoil than a 9mm, 20 round capacity (though that's common in 9mms as well these days), light weight, a nice light trigger pull, and the high velocity would probably make it easier to hit farther away than with a slower bullet. Probably best for LEOs or soldiers, though, since the only decent fighting ammo for it is illegal as "armor piercing" in America, even though a 7.62x25mm pistol will penetrate soft body armor as well.

Still, I have heard Five-seveNs are highly sought after by the Mexican drug cartel members, so maybe you're right.

7.62x39mm would be perfect for the size of deer you see around here, and it's cheap. Doesn't really matter for me; you're only allowed to hunt with shotguns or bows in this area.

Oh yeah thats another thing with the Five Seven, because its basically a rifle round it would suck as a silenced gun, as opposed to a 22 or 45.

Also, I read that the 270 is best for Whitetails.

There not better, whey are different. If do not go into details of ballistics - 5.45 have greater velocity, but it tends to ricoсhet easy, 7.62 got more penetrating power.

I htink you mean 7.62x39, the only AK I have ever heard of in 7.62x54 would be the one in stalker...

Yeah I meant 7.62x39 sorry.

Would you say the 5.45 is similar to the 5.56 in ballistics? Also which on is more mass produced?

It is just a Romanian PSL cut down with normal AK furniture. A PSL is the rifle on the top (not to be confused with the SVD below it, completely different rifle):

Personally if I where to get another AK, it would be in 5.45x39. If not, maybe 5.56 or another 7.62x39.

Yeah, I know what a PSL is. It's similar to an AK, but it isn't an AK. It's a PSL.

... which reminds me, there's a store near here that had one a bit ago, wonder if they still do ...

Anyway, next question: I know that I'd prefer a nice Rem 870 over a cheapo Mossy 500 ... but now I've got some interesting choices:

1. Big 5 special Mossy 500 combo (18" and 28" barrels) - $379
2. Big 5 special Benelli Nova (not Supernova, not tactical) - $379
3. Used Rem 1100 semi auto - $400-500

I'm looking primarily for a cheapish shotgun. I might or might not hunt with it, it'll probably be mostly for 3-gun and "oh crap, I heard something bump in the night."

Input?

The first one sounds good, I'd rather have one shotgun with several barrels than multiple shotguns.

Also I have another question myself, does Mauser still make rifles? If so are they affordable or super expensive collector pieces?

My wife shot a youth model 20ga semi-auto Rem 1100 back when we were doing the sporting clays circuit. Hers was pretty finnicky. Toward the end of a day of shooting it tended to hang shells on eject. Especially with reloads (even with AA shells). Once cleaned and oiled there was no problem. I will have to say though, that it had virtually no recoil (probably why it hung so much), and was/is fun to shoot.

Does the 500 combo come with screw in chokes? (if that matters to you).

Don't know anything about the Benelli Nova. A lower end of the Benelli line? $379

I hate pump guns. I failed with them as a kid...lol. Haven't touched another. Just give me an over and under (or an old fashioned side by side)....

Pretty sure the Mossy doesn't come with chokes. I'm not sure I really care, though ... the 28" barrel will see only rare service anyway.

The Nova, yeah, it's a bottom-end piece. Pretty ugly, too, but I don't pick 'em for pretty.

I'm not a fan of pump guns myself. I'd just as soon have semi - that's one thing less to think about when milliseconds are on the line, like in competition.

I would be fine with this particular bolt-action AR.
