Default Tank ammo switching-Improvements

I love the fact that tanks now have different ammo types. However, the process of actually getting them in the barrel is unsatisfactory. Few things are more irritating than being in a situation where you need both round types (fighting infantry, when a tank rolls into view, or vice-versa) expending the round in the chamber at the proper target, and having to wait to reload before you can change rounds. Especially in the tanks with larger guns, like the IS2. The simple fact is, tankers didn't (and in some cases couldn't) unload a chambered round.

Now, my proposition for the loading process change is this. When you have a loaded round, pressing the change-firemode key simply queues up the next round type to be loaded. If you are loading a round when you press the change firemode key, then the loading process is interrupted and restarted, with the new round type.

There was a thread about this earlier, however basically it came down to that tanks should have to use the "reload" button to put another shell into the breach, that way you can switch ammo type between shots since loading would no longer bo automatic.

It makes prefect since m8, I just fired off a round and was ordered to put anohter AP round in then 1 sec later was ordered to put in HE round...There is no way to eject the shell once its in the barrel.. U cant open it up and take it out. Also.. with the tight space it wouldnt be possible to ejcet it, switch it then re-switch the HE. Its not just realism...

do u watch the Military Channel? in the U.S.? Great show about Tank Crews and Their tanks

Only right now with the reload system they've given us, that's all we can do. We have to wait for the breech to be closed and locked before we can even say "We need HE ammo!" at which point, the chambered round teleports back into storage, and a new one begins loading. If the loader was halfway through the process of reloading, and was told to put a different ammo type in, I doubt it'd be too much of a hassle to stick the old round back in storage, and get a new one out. True, a tank turret is cramped, and uncomfortable, but all the loader would have to do is reverse the actions he'd just taken to remove the round from storage.

Well actually the Germans could do unload a life shot, though that wasn't without dangers.

Hahahahaha...

Yes, the current system for changing ammo types is both difficult to work with and unrealistic. I fully support Maltodextrin's suggestion. Bump.

Being a former "Tanker" on the M60A3 & M-1's, I concur that it was a not a big deal to switch out different types of rounds (Sabot, HEAT, and WP). If you had a good loader, you could do it in 15 seconds or less. Although, I don't know much about the old breaches on the older WWII tanks, I don't think there was that much of difference.

Just my thoughts.

A "manual" reload system for the tank's main gun would work best I think.

Just like the bolt action rifles in the game, you would "fire" a second time to open the breach and load the next round ...just like throwing the bolt on the bolt action rifles now. The only difference is that before you hit the "fire" button the second time, you could switch ammo types before doing so. This would then allow you to decide on the ammo before doing the reload.

Also you should be able to change ammo types during loading by pressing "change firemode". But this would take extra time due to indecision that causes the loader to put back what he's got and put in something different ....bascially having to back out and start the loading over again.

Good idea?

Unless you wanted to piss him off.

The devs have seen it and will implement it at some point in the future.

But when I'm in the tank I use the reload button to refill my pipe!
