Armored Shield is a great open map in Caspian Border style, Death Valley is faster paced head on combat.

I have mixed feelings about the new vehicles though. New tank destroyers are basically tanks with more unlocks, they're not weak at all. Actually tanks feel inferior compared to them which is weird, DICE couldn't differentiate them enough. I haven't tried the new artillery much, but it has the same appealing factor as the support mortar to me. New quads are awesome! They captured the crazy feeling of quads from BC2, I love them AC-130 isn't very destructive, but it's always a mild annoyance and pretty easy to shoot down. I'd rather have the maps without them.

I haven't had so much fun in BF3 since so long, actually from now on I can't see myself playing most of the vanilla maps. I didn't like the idea of "premium" before, but I really feel what we're getting is really worth it now. With modding tools though, this game can go on for years, but we're not getting it. Just avoid instant vehicle respawn servers.
Yeah it's a nice map pack. I agree on the new vehicles... I shot one of those TDs with 2 javelins and it didn't die. Silly.

Anyway, here's high quality upload of the Mountain map that me and Rak talk so fondly of:

Played Bandar Rush on HC. Had a lot of fun. The other maps are not that good. I'll play them more to see how I like them.

Artillery is only useful at point blank ranges ironically. I also which there were IFV/AFVs on these maps. If there are about 10 tank destroyers, why not throw in a single IFV to change things up?

Most people get Premium as it is cheaper in the long run. I got it for $37.50, comes with all 5 (though I already paid for B2k) DLCs. IMO this is the best route to go.

-So most of the maps are more interesting than the stock ones.
-They load faster than the stock maps.
-They're more interesting to play.
-The Gunship and the map layouts actually make it so it's not just massive chokepoints anymore.
-DICE forgot to mention they were also making the most BLUE map in BF history.

I'm actually impressed. The only thing that needs to be tweaked in my opinion is the respawn rate of the Gunship for Rush modes. It's bloody ridiculous.

Damn this game, one of my best friends who I gifted RO2 is strictly on BF3 and wants me to go "Premium"...

I would but I am not crazy about paying up to 50$... the price of another full game, for a game where I barely put 5 hours in...

Great game yes... but damn expensive for "extra content"

Put more hours into BF3, then decide. Honestly, it is alot of money but it's also alot of content -- high quality content. I just think of it as if the game had an old fashioned expansion pack come out, and I was simply buying that instead.

The biggest downside to Premium is you don't really know entirely what you are getting, since the last two DLCs haven't been announced yet.

If you're into BF3, it's a great deal. 20 new weapons, 5 new vehicles, 15 new maps and other extra bits like gun camos/dogtags.

10 more weapons and 10 new maps are to come(probably). That's more content than the game is out with.

That 50 dollars (or less) is, in fact, a lot of money for extra content, but when you start looking at it you soon realise it's pretty enough content for a second game. Like Rak here explained on the content you get, it's not that bad of a deal really. And it's one time fee so you don't lose it when you don't care for paying a yearly subscription anymore. This way you can always tune back in and play it like you want.

In all seriousness, not a bad deal really.

Debatable. Most of the new vehicles have almost no effort put into them aside from the 3D models. For example, the BTR is exactly the same as the LAV aside from the 3D model. The AC-130 is essentially a flying turret.

The game is good for what it is, though don't expect the mobile guns to be any different from the MBTs aside from armor and speed levels being slightly tweaked. Apply that idea to the rest of the vehicles and you'll get a better idea of what you are paying for.

If you do like BF3, get Premium though.

Well I'm mostly referring to the new weapons, which are all well done and feel distinct, as well as the new maps. Vehicles have always been mirror images in Battlefield games.

Yes, though the gunship is more than a mobile turret. And anyone who plays it that way doesn't use it to the full effect.

Using those mobile parachute spawns is absolutely incredible, and gets rid of the forced chokepoint feel that BC2 tried cramming down our throats, and BF3 tried to lessen.

On some rush maps you literally have to watch everything. You never know if someone will drop behind your lines and take you out, or drop on a hill for a great cover and vantage point or beacon spawn.

I just think the gunship could use a reduced respawn.

Weapons I do agree, though there aren't any new ones in AK. I believe we won't be getting anymore either in the next DLCs.

As for the maps, I played some more Death Valley and I think it is a nice map. The one with the open field is decent as well. Alborz Mountain looks nice but isn't good for vehicles IMO.

It's pretty good for the planes and jets though. Do runs on the points in jets, using the mountains as cover from at locks. There's barley any cover at any of the checkpoints so a good competent chopper team can go in and clean pretty well.

We will get 10 more weapons in either Aftermath or Endgame.

Hopefully the DLC that comes out next will have the weapons. Would be nice if both had weapons though.

One thing that disappoints me about AK is that there are no IFVs. I was hoping there would be tank destroyers, MBTs, APC/IFVs (both BTR and BMP) all in one map. Hopefully some map in a future DLC can do this.

if aftermath or endgame comes with m136at4 ala BC2, i will go premium.
man i cant stand maps with attack-helis/jets. with a m136at4 i would actually be abel to get the good guys down and not fire like 5 rockets(lockon) to hope on would hit.

I don't see the point of a manual guidance missile in the game. Though it would be nice if there were more anti tank weapons. M-72 LAW and RPG-18 for each team? Not sure how they will be different enough from the SMAW/RPG-7 though.

Perhaps they can introduce different rounds for the SMAW/RPG-7. Anti personal rounds and anti tank rounds ect.

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

The RPG-7 is only good for dives or strafing runs, and even then is a rough shot. Don't even think about a long distance shot outside an outright fluke.

Javelins are almost useless because everything has countermeasures/flares/smoke (and the smoke will screw up a future rocket even if you reacquire after smoke is deployed).
