uhmmm, wow. I thought bf3 looked nicer than that; I have to say the games looks really fall apart when you try and take those large shots. Perhaps Im just spoiled by arma being so damned scenic...

Some of those screen shots do look of low quality.

In game, at least on the maps we currently have, the graphics look amazing.

Close Quarters is okay. There are no defined spawn positions and the maps are tiny. It can be fun, though I was hoping that there would be more maps like Metro Rush. In the CQ maps you essentially are running and gunning the entire time. There is no place to set up an MG, use mortars or sniper rifles.

If you buy this alone it really is not worth it. Only four small maps and only eight new firearms. Karkand came with bigger maps, firearms and vehicles.

Sadly, Armored Kill does not seem to be including new firearms... looks like each DLC introduced brings less content. I hope the other two DLCs have new vehicles and weapons.

I don't think they will introduce any more weapons, if you look at the list of premium features it includes 20 maps and 20 weapons. As the premium includes Karkand along with CQ thats your 20 weapons right there. This does not bother me personally as I feel there is already a staggering amount of weapons in the game already.

Armoured kill will introduce 20 vehicle specific unlocks plus some new units. It will be great to have another 4 decent large conquest maps.

The CQ maps don't feel up to the standard of the other maps imo, there is a few dodgy textures littered about. Still its nice to have a bit more variety as I tend to play a bit of conquest and a bit of rush, a round or two on gun master is a nice break between the mayhem.

I'll be buying each pack 1 by 1 as its possible I will tire of the game before the last DLC is out and the premium version is essentially asking me to pay again what I originally paid for BF3 in the first place. No thanks, £40 up front to save a few quid over the course of a year and just a couple of skins and tags is not good value to me.

I thought both came with 8 weapons each, but both come with 10. So it looks like this is all we will get.

Though I stand by my point. Karkand gave you maps, new vehicles and new weapons. CQ lacks vehicles and AK lacks weapons. I hope the other two expansions add many more vehicles, though it looks like they will only add 4-5 each. Two of which are a damn motorcycle and ATV. We need more s, not motorcycles and similar.

Due to the lack of new weapons (or vehicles) the DLCs should feature more maps, but that won't be the case.

Maybe I am regretting Premium now.

The numbing of BF, the consolations, the endless and overpriced DLC (shame on you to everyone who brought BF premium). Less content and more hype. Good job EA, thank you for destroying one two of your best franchises...

Well, to be fair, if what that guy says is accurate and BF4 releases in fall 2013 then it's two years after BF3. That's understandable. At the same time, everything else you said is true and I have a hard time believing BF4 will be much different than BF3.

True words. I don't see a problem if DICE will make a different enough experience from BF3. There's still lot to improve, especially on teamwork and command structure. However what i'm afraid will happen is that we'll see basically the same core game as BF3, with rather small refinements and changes.

Only time will tell.

I would have hoped that BF3 would at least last 3 years, especially since the DLC is essentially mandatory.

Though if there are so few changes it can be a good sign and perhaps many won't switch over to BF4.

True. People need to remember that there was about 2-3 years between each previous Battlefield game release, even back in the days when it was a PC only title. BF1942 came out with new expansions at least every year, closely followed up by Battlefield Vietnam, followed two or so years later by Battlefield 2, followed up by an expansion back (and map packs), then 2 years or so later by BF2142 ... etc etc etc.

So there's nothing necessarily wrong with them coming out with another Battlefield game so soon. The problem is that in the past at least new BF games focused on a different type of warfare. I'd bet a million bucks BF4 will simply be more modern warfare, meaning it will be basically BF3.5. Which is lame.

If they kept lots of the weapons, vehicles (with some changes of course) to save development funds while adding more and many maps at launch (say 20) then I would be all for it. Keeps the core, adds a bunch more out of the box. I would prefer this over a new setting with less content.

But I bet it will ship will only 9 (or maybe 7-8 ) maps by default with little more content.

Did they improve the graphics? The explosions seem very different, then again I'm very used to playing BF3 at lowest settings on a laptop.

Soooo Armored Kill is out today, and I've had a chance to play Bandar Desert and a bit of the night map. So far, apart from the buggy, laggy, typical EA release, I love the scale of the maps I've played so far. This really feels like a Battlefield game now...

I'll post more when I'm able to get into more servers without my game crashing, origin being annoying, or losing a connection to servers.

EDIT:

Here are some purdy screenshots for you all that I took today. Sorry about the ugly artifacting on the images in full-res mode... I need to find a higher quality image uploader.

I think Bandar is the weakest of them all, too flat and spammy. All the others are simply breathtaking though, Albroz is truly a masterpiece. It's the best map I've ever seen in a game, it's almost photorealistic. Just watch this if you want to know what I mean. Armored Shield is a great open map in Caspian Border style, Death Valley is faster paced head on combat.

I have mixed feelings about the new vehicles though. New tank destroyers are basically tanks with more unlocks, they're not weak at all. Actually tanks feel inferior compared to them which is weird, DICE couldn't differentiate them enough. I haven't tried the new artillery much, but it has the same appealing factor as the support mortar to me. New quads are awesome! They captured the crazy feeling of quads from BC2, I love them AC-130 isn't very destructive, but it's always a mild annoyance and pretty easy to shoot down. I'd rather have the maps without them.

I haven't had so much fun in BF3 since so long, actually from now on I can't see myself playing most of the vanilla maps. I didn't like the idea of "premium" before, but I really feel what we're getting is really worth it now. With modding tools though, this game can go on for years, but we're not getting it. Just avoid instant vehicle respawn servers.
