Hi all,
I'm new to this game. I haven't played any of the old ones. I wanted to try the old RO, which one would you guys recommend me trying? the Red Orchestra: Ostfront or the Killing Floor? would both run on Windows 7 64? Thanks, Last edited by InfireBaptize; 05-04-2010 at 12:39 PM. |

Just because you like one, doesn't necessarily mean you'll like the other. As for me, I have both. I was done with Killing Floor after about 3 months. After 3 (4?) years still play Ostfront. And yes, they both run on Windows 7 64.

Killing Floor is a zombie (alright, Zeds) survival shooter for 6 people to play, while Red Orchestra is a realistic 1 shot 1 kill World War 2 game.
So if you are interested in Heroes of Stalingrad, KF would be the wrong choice for obvious reasons. However this would have become clear to you with a bit of research... |

Or, you could really go old skool and install UT2004 and load up the RO mod.

The RO Mod is epic! The rattle mp40, the community made maps! Try this out. And of course Ostfront and then, well then you're ready for HoS, I guess at least.

RO and then install Darkest Hour, quite simply a superior game to RO in every way.

No; It crashes and it's amateurish work so it's lacking in many areas. Going through barbed wire, what?

DH has many aspects that make it better then RO not that the RO devs are worse its just that they stopped working on RO while DH is still being continuously updated with realism in mind. I like playing DH better because I can never get into a interesting team oriented game in RO, in DH theres always people who wanna play a tactical game with me. I am part of the 29th though....

I prefer the way DH plays, simples. The MG's and SMG's ( apparently the tanks are more believable too ) are far more realistically modelled and useful as a result. Most of the people I played RO with feel the same way too, it's just more fun for us to play DH. Nothing absurd about that claim, it's all about personal preference

Geez the guy asked RO or KF, and suddenly this turned into RO vs DH battle once more... like stated above, two different games. Like WWII? Then RO. Like Zombies? Then KF.

RO might be worth trying if you just have patience the size of the Himalaya Range, as on typical public server it's not that difficult to be completely lost about some of the basics, making some sort of boot camp almost necessary.
Killing Floor doesn't require that much patience and is quite fun, even though getting started might be also bit sluggish due most players having quite high level perks. Quote:

a little off topic, but if I can run the game Killing Floor on Medium, could I run Red Orchestra on the lowest settings? (I can care less about graphics as long they don't look like stick figures)

Can you still find a populated RO:CA server?
