Default System Requirements Scare

Okay now I know that RO:OST isn't out yet and they have not officially released the system requirements BUT I was just reading on a different website about UT2007 which used the same engine as RO:OST does and they had a rough GUESS at

minimum: 2.8GHz, 512mb Ram,Geforce6
for high details: 3-4GHz, 1Gb Ram, Nvidia 6800GT/ultra or 7800GT/GTX SLI
Dual-core Processor use: Multi-Threading is supported and should provide much better performance.
64 Bit version available with better textures
Renderers: Shader-3.0, Fallback-Mode for Shader 2.0 maybe a dx8 renderer.
HDR: yes
physics: Novodex-Physik-Engine.
Ageias PhysX Processor supported.

Now these system requirements are REALLY high and I doubt RO:OST's will be that intense BUT can we at least get a rough estimate so we can upgrade our PCs over Christmas if needed =D I am currently running...

AMD Athlon 64 +3000 2.0 ghz
Corsair 1024 RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 XT (planning on upgrading to Radeon x700 over Xmas)

I can currently play all the HL2 mods etc on High with extras turned low...so if the dev team would be so kind...could you at least give us a rough estimate...the holidays are upon us and the mod is soon to be released I just want to make sure I am RO:OST ready! ^_^ I can't wait till the release!

search function is your friend. You should talk to him every now and then. If you had you would have found rather quickly that the reqs for RO:OST are about the same as RO 3.3b, if not lower.

RO:O is built on the 2.5 version of the engine, not the 3.0. Take a deep breath, relax, you'll be able to run it just fine.

ROOstfront will run on the Unreal Engine 2.5, UT 2007 will be on UE 3.0.

If you can run RO 3.3, you should be able to run ROOstfront

well i get a reasonably steady 85FPS on my x700pro (with a 25% OC but ok)
but ya if your buying a new card now, go for the current generation, it will only cost you a few 10-ers more.

well that cant be true.
the 9700 had a frequentie of 325 en 310 mem (620 effective)
and the x700pro had a frequentie of 425 en 432(864 effective) yet preformance is basicly the same. (and i can know i had both)
x700 had higher frequentie so it must have fewer pipelines then the 9700pro.

The problem with 3.3 is that servers cant handle it. Most servers "stutter" with more than 26 ppl, especially on an intense map. Its probly cause the devs could not optimize behind what they have without the source code. I hope anyway because it causes annoying BFE conflicts every week.

It is the replacement for the 9700 in terms of speed just to replace it with something that's easy to make.

Just like you got a 6800gt and a 6800gs. while the gs only got 12 pipes it's high clock makes it as fast as a 6800gt (beside that it overclocks like crazy)

also the UT2007 engine doesnt need a 512mb geforce card. The first test videos for the engine were done using an nvidia geforce 6 ultra (256mb)

wow quite a few posts lol...thanks guys for giving me more information about graphics cards because I have been wondering about them for a while now I really want to get a new one but I don't want to spend 300-400 dollars to get an x1000 series =/ and I have a shuttle computer which restricts me to only AGP cards...I am also afraid of my power supply being enough to handle newer cards...it runs at 240W right now but I am able to upgrade to 300 can someone help me out?

for 250 dollar the geforce 6800gs AGP should get released pretty soon i guess.
If i were you i'd look mainly into something with pixel shader 3 as i guess you'll keep your vidcard for some time. an x700 is not a really big improvement over your 9600. i'd say go with ati for x1*** or nvidia 6**** just for pixel shader 3 support. Or if you don't care about pixelshaders that much. Go look for a x800 series card, the x800xl would probably be nice (it uses a low power consuming core aswell).

AGP is getting old probably pretty fast, but a Ati x800/x850 series or nvidia 68** series should give you some nice stuff for cheap around these times.
Just look at www.tomshardware.com the vga chart vii (agp video cards).

Then use www.pricewatch.com (if you're american, about every country probably has something like it, just ask your local computer know hows).

an x800xl(agp) or 6800gs(agp once it's out) should be possible to find for 300canadian dollars i guess. If you see one of em old 6800gt agp versions for your budget just get it . And if you really want to go cheap, go grab a 6800 (normal not gt gs ultra and definately NOT le), should be a tad bit better than a 6600gt out of the box but a high probability of unlocking pipelines so you can get a pretty good vidcard for really cheap .

Yep, I am spending close to 700 dollars on a computer that can use PCI-Express. The wonders of new technology. By the way, did I mention Dell sucks.

yes dell does suck, agp as#hol#s, I am stuck with a old cpu socket type and agp so I am just plan upgrading my video card(the new optimeised code should help my cpu) I plain on getting a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130220 6600 GT ,which I am ordering in the morning, for $119 after rebate. People say its not the best but no ***** but it blows away my 5200 fx, I just plain on running a 1280x800, 16 bit color, or the highest res I can run that stays above 30 fps.

Sounds good! I might need an upgrade middle or late next year. Damn sure wont be dropping $300 for a video card! Thats around 1/3 of my ENTIRE cost of my system as originally built, plus my recent upgrade to AMD 64 3000+ and Gigabyte K8U-939 mobo. Yeah Im cheap. But it works well, so I dont NEED to upgrade yet...
