What about a new gamemode: protect the trader.

In the current game you have just have a trader which opens after every wave, what about a trader thats constantly open, but new enemies constantly spawn, that plus you need to keep her safe. If enough enemies make it to the trader and she gets killed the game will be over.

Ofcourse the problem here is how do you make people still move and not camp outside the trader.

While i thought off this: occasionally the trader will move to a different shop location, during this she will walk away from the current shop to the other shop.

What will be good about this gamemode:

It will promote team play, if everybody goes buy new ammo at the same time the trader will get swarmed and you all die and thus lose. People will need to relieve each other so that they can restock and maybe get a better weapon. I think there have to be either more enemies or a small reward for each kill to balance for the constantly open trader so that you potentially still can run out of ammo and to stop pipe bomb spam, make it so that they have to be recharged before they can be bought again ofcourse after an initial set amount that can be bought.
 
protect the vip gamemodes have never been fun in any game and they never will be

On topic, I think it would be a nice change from the constant campfest that is KF. It would make things harder, though, so either spawns would need to be decreased, or people with no skill will whine about it endlessly...

Realistically, it's probably more work than it's worth, and I'd rather see perk balance fixed first, and then new content added in form of maps, new zeds and side-grade weapons.

Btw, if you play with friends, just add "house rules," like that you have to move to the next trader spot during the wave.

in a sense, protect the VIP gamemodes are CURSED.

they have NEVER been fun (and almost hated in some games) and no matter how many times a developer tries to retry it and make it fun in some new inventive way it NEVER IS

I thought VIP games in america's army and counter-strike (or was it TFC?) were freakin awesome, IF you had a good VIP who hid until the coast was clear to escape. Having a bot for a VIP would have to be scripted such that it didn't randomly run off somewhere to die. I don't see a need for a VIP mode unless PvP is implimented first, but endless/unlimited waves should be done first.

Great idea except camping wouldn't be a "problem" with Endless Wave mode, rather it would be essential for maximum survival time. With an endless wave and trader open constantly, perhaps put the trader behind a fence or something so she's not at risk of death, and keep buying stuff as zeds keep coming in, making sure that players are always holding the line- this would be fun as you said. Making the trader vulnerable and having to protect her would also be fun, as long as she stays in one spot the whole time and you can heal her. You can't really move the trader in an endless wave game, unless she arbitrarily starts walking to a new spot and you have to follow her- interesting but a huge challenge and probably much too frustrating for players and tough to implement. Another option is to get the trader to follow you by hitting a button like in CS. This would let you choose your camping spot, either anywhere (magic floating trader shop) or at a trader location of choice (more realistic). Fun stuff, but the easiest mode should be done and playtested first...



The easiest first cut for Endless Wave mode:
  • Trader stays in one Trader location for each map (possibly randomized)
  • Trader does not change location after wave starts
  • Trader door stays open the entire time
  • Trader cannot be attacked/damaged by zeds
  • Spawn zeds constantly
  • Players kill and buy stuff constantly, as long as possible
  • Bonus: track players' max survival time for each map
With unlimited waves mode, you can have the trader move to different locations between waves as normal, with no patriarch, just an ever-increasing number of zeds. This should be DIRT SIMPLE to implement, and would be a big step in legitimizing KF for a wider audience. I think TWI is implementing new game modes as we speak.

Endless wave and unlimited waves modes would be relatively easy to implement and bring a huge boost to the game's replayability, which currently suffers once all perks are maxed out. These modes would also satisfy "1337" players who find Suicidal to be too easy.

I would like to see Survival Mode where weapons and ammo spawn but no trader. Or maybe a trader only every 10 minutes. The 10 minute mark would be severely difficult to reach.


Time Limit

I would like to see where everyone in your group must make it to a certain spot on the map in a certain time limit. Everyone must be alive and in the spot before the time runs out or everyone loses. The entire time hordes of Zed's spawn trying to stop you from making it.

I'd like a game mode with objectives. Finding documents, turning off a valve, destroying some important PC, etc.

However, I would NOT want it like L4D where you just follow the trail in most maps. Rather, I would an open map where you can actually get lost or separated from your team mates. Also the objectives should be randomly placed throughout the map, but players will know where they are because of the objective list. If the objectives were random without us knowing where they are, we would most likely just get frustrated.

Adding random placement of objectives makes each game different! Let's say in one game, an important document is placed in an easy spot to get to and escape. Then the next game, that same document is placed in building with narrows halls making you highly susceptible to being trapped or cornered. So what you would have to do is come up with tactics to prevent yourselves from getting trapped, (I would have 4 members stay outside and 2 others go inside to find the document).

Unscripted and unpredictable is much more fun.

EDIT: I'd also like to note that, if objectives in this manner were added, it'd be interesting to hear my friend on his mic saying "OMG I CAN'T GET OUT! THEY CAME THROUGH THE WINDOW!" in situations where the group had to split up.

Isnt there an offical mutator called "No Trader"? Pretty much the same thing.

I once did a map on Hard without going to the trader. It was fun.

Hmm... I dont think that one would work very well, because you could just all go berserker and run to the location without too much trouble. Or medic with a katana for extra speed.

But to stick to the topic, why is everyone so strongly against protect the VIP gamemode? I dont think its such a bad idea, well maybe it is with an NPC but maybe something like this:

-> At the beginning of each map (or wave?) one person from the team will be randomly selected as the "VIP". All zeds will attempt to attack this person during the game (or wave) and everyone else must protect him. Wouldnt work in solo of course.. And TWI would have to figure out a way of preventing players from blocking the zeds who are targetting the "VIP". Maybe, to make things even more interesting, give some objectives only the "VIP" can perform. Therefor, theyd have to move around the map escorting him.

It's hard enough keeping a gaggle of nooblets from getting themselves killed, and you want to go and add an escort mission? No. Just no.

for you maybe but suicidal is becam so easy, before the "level up" i won 1 suicidal when i have played 10 game, NOW i win 3 suicidal when i play 4 suicidal (i win all the time if you want) its so easy

All lv6 thats why, its so easy. A survival is a very good idea i think ^^

That's a good idea, but what if it was one of the players? That player is the ONLY person that zombies attack unless shot by an ally? If that player dies, game over? Not perfect, but it could work. (Maybe that player is made weaker?)
