Default Christmas Nostalgia for BFE:RO Players

Remember this? 5 years ago, Christmas of 2004, the members of BFE:RO (Battle For Europe) took a break from battling each other on the Eastern Front and celebrated Christmas in a not so peaceful, but fun manner.

Fedorov made this clip. I uploaded it to a channel for BFE videos, which I made a long time ago. Some day I might upload the rest. Who knows.

We played on a low-gravity version of... whatever that UT map was called, and added Panzerfausts, MP40's, PPSH's and Russians and Germans. Everybody had a great time.

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with Panzerfausts. In space."

woooooooh, Nice work Nim you found it, I can't believe its been 5 years, time flies so fast...

Now I'm really going nostalgic, 2004-2005 was the best time in my life, and it doesn't look like there is gonna be anything nearly as good in the future.

Well, for me BFE:RO were the best RO battles ever, not even Ostfront could top that. My favourite battle was that Maikop battle. I tried to upload the other videos (recorded by Lemur, I have most of them) but something went wrong with the sound or something. But I've saved more things as well, including strats and German "propaganda" material.

Did BFE start in 2003 or 2004? I forgot. I do know that I've joined relatively early, my first battle was Battle 6 or 7 of the beta campaign, it was on Red God Of War.

6 years go by really fast...

EDIT: In that video you can see how everyone changed their player names for the event.

Yeah I remember, I luckily started to play since the very beginning of the beta campaign, nothing was as epic as that thing was (and it was also flamewar free), nothing can be compared to that...
not the following campaigns or any other game that came after that has been as epic as those times.

I wish I could go back to those days. I still feel very privileged for having been part of it.

I doubt many people can say that they have lived such awesome experiences as we lived there.

My favorite battles were:

1- Karkhov: where russians had their first victory and managed to stop the german advance and started the counter attack (after a long history of defeats, we were like oh! they are not invincible!) great usage of the PTRDs there ^^.

2- Kiev (Combined Arms): the decisive last battle, both sides were 50% in the overall campaign map, AND in number rounds in that same map, the whole campaign was decided in the Very Last Round I still remember how my nerves were shaking then (The map itself was epic too).

Best battles ever played in the best game ever existed, period.

Late '04 is when it all started, with the "beta" campaign taking place then. I joined several weeks before the first battle.

Funny video. I liked playing that map in UT 2004.

Can't imagine how RO would be in it.

Yeah I've got an audio only recording of our teamspeak during a match on the map Volkov River (I think thats what it was called - great map btw, thank you FlashPan). It's a pretty long recording... something like 30 mins or more. Too big to send or post - maybe someone who is interested in hearing such a thing could help me to upload it somewhere.

All the familiar names from the Russian side are there.. Masasa, Koolhan, Fed, Glazer (loved this guy, anybody heard from him?).

If I remember correctly, the German side wanted to quit for a couple of reasons during this map. Lemur said there was too much nade spam and they wanted to forfeit, and then UltraZ wanted to change servers because of bad pings or something to that effect.

I have a lot of good memories of BFE, aaaand a few I'd rather not recall

Bump for Christmas. :P

Are there any ex-members of the German team here?

Also, just curious... is Iron Crescendo still active?

EDIT: Rez, Volkhov River, was that that map that played alongside a river and eventually ended up in a town? I thought that one was made by UncleDrax. Maybe I'm getting the maps mixed up.

Omg I got to have that! Please upload it somewhere.

Quick googling I found this: http://www.megaupload.com/

or maybe this: http://www.megafileupload.com/ (238MB limit)

Anyway, I wasn't there for the beta campaign, I think I joined half-way through the first official campaign. Very nice memories, ppsh41 was a true killing machine those days.

While i did not play in any BFE battles i do remember that Volkhov River map, and still stands out to me as being one hell of a great map!
I loved every second playing on that one.

Hmm, I hope this works :P

The first 2 minutes or so are a little hectic... it sounds like we had people jumping in the server without first making sure it was okay to do so. The voice you hear at the beginning is masasa - 'get out of teh server Boba Fett!'

hahahah

haha, that was awesome! Thanks for sharing! Wow, can't believe it has been 5 years, I was 17 back then. Those were truly the golden days of RO at least for me, I actually played many of those 8 hour battles from start to finish. I remeber that "Whiihaaa" shout from Glazier, he did it in many in battles.

And sorry Boba Fett! Its just that every time we outnumbered the churmans they would whine and ***** about it(like we would also) and want to restart the round or something.

Damn I wish someone would have screenshots saved of the scoreboards during those battles, would be nice to see all the names who were playing back then.

Also, this video(by Fedorov) belongs to this thread:

Haaaaa! I remember being in the Shambeh Bambeh video on Torlan .

Man, we had a good time back then. Definately the golden days of RO for me too. I used to look forward to the 8 hour matches all week. Somebody get a hold of Glazer and tell him I said 'Hello' .

I remember that video, fun stuff. I don't think I was there that day. Mind if I upload that video to the BFE:RO channel, masasa? Also, Rez, can I upload your audio file as well? Would be nice to have some footage from the Russian perspective on there too.
