Mouse Problem...Help?!

A friend of mine recently upgraded and gave me his old rig which was better than mine.

It has been reformatted with a fresh install of xp.

I have tried two mice on it but for some reason the scroll wheel click and scroll do not work. Any ideas? And both of these mice worked earlier today so it isn't them.

try uninstalling the mouse driver, unplug the mouse, and plug it again (If its USB)

i think you need to turn off your computer first (if the mouse is PS/2) so you dont damage the MoBo ports

Try a different USB port ...

Ok after a few hours last night I was able to get it. Turns out all the USB ports hadn't been updated to 2.0.

So I found the drivers for the MoBo's usb stuff and installed. Then I had to unplug it from the ps2 slot, take the adapter off and use the usb ports. Then I had to go to device manager and update the Human interface thing and somehow all that worked.
