Well the MG42 can push a prone man backward and give him a belly rash, so I could only imagine you'd fall on your *** if you tried to fire in midair.

Just saw it. Oddly, not as bloody as Kill Bill.

Completely silly, but a fun flick. Tarantino himself called it a "Spaghetti Western" set in WWII.

I was slightly annoyed the guy in the propaganda film, in this film was a scharfshutze without a scope. BTW: He was a German version of Audie Murphy.

Really liked it. The performance of the german actors was on point. The basterds where ok, through i hoped for a bit more action on their part. Really liked the basement scene and the overall performance of "the jew hunter".

Good Movie !

You made the mistake of thinking this was a "WWII film."* Easy mistake, since it's set sort of in WWII. It's a Tarantino fantasy revenge movie heavily influenced by Spaghetti Westerns and to a lesser extent Macaroni Combat (Italian WWII exploitation movies from the 70s).

That's like watching Kill Bill and complaining about the anime style action being too fake (gallons of blood spraying out of one skinny woman like a fire-hose).

And, yeah the guy playing "Jew Hunter" was really good. He won best actor at Cannes.

*I guess if you're judging it on historical accuracy, it may very well have been the worst WWII film.

The swastika on the guy's forehead are they gonna change it to an iron cross for the German audience ?

In fact yes. In the German verson, instead of a swastika, it reads "I write random troll posts on internet forums to stir up country vs country debates that everyone got tired of back in 2001" on the guy's forehead.

But yeah, seeing as how I never saw a movie here with a censored swastika, I doubt it. They did censor part of the trailer though, namely the title. I guess they thought it (the title screen) could be interpreted pro-nazi by people who only glanced over it. That was the company's choice.

Contrary to games, movies count as art and art is not censored. Except for the art that doesn't count as art...

all in all still a decent movie.
I guess that's a case where it was best for the story telling the audience didn't understand what was going on. Like in Kill Bill vol I, where Beatrix's name was bleeped.

About the censorship, according to Wikipedia:

I just saw the movie, and it was not what I thought it would be. It was worth seeing, but I probably won't be buying the dvd. I definitely DID NOT expect the ending. Nowhere near as much blood or gore as I was expecting, and the basterds were only a part of the movie. The German colonel was the most entertaining. Lots of almost goofy western type music, but I did appreciate some of it, especially what I recognized as also being in "Kelly's Heroes" which is a classic.

I thought it was a really good movie. The writing was terrific. The bar scene being one of my favorites. Sooo much tension in a lot of the scenes. Col. Landa is the best character this year. He was perfectly cast. Great job by Christoph Waltz.

It seems people want gore when they see a Tarantino flick.. the friends I saw it with made the same 'lack of gore' comment after it was over. They also wanted to see more action scenes with the Basterds, but all of that and more gore would have seemed unnecessary to me and would have taken away from the movie. It was still incredibly violent, just not gory.

I dunno.. I was into it for the writing and it delivered. I'll be buying the DVD.

..and the sniper nitpickers - scope = sniper, no scope = not a sniper. You guys are playing too many video games if you ask me.

loads and loads of stuff for the theatre version was cut.
All the characters had backstories etc.

I'm not going to buy it on blueray unless a directors cut edition showing the full footage will come.
