Default The formal Tripwire announcement:

This one should be finding its way out across the web, but to save everyone hunting for it, here you go!

Quote:
Roswell, GA. 4th May 2009: Tripwire Interactive is pleased to announce Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, the sequel to the hit PC title Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, winner of multiple awards: Voodoo Extreme’s FPS and MP Game of the Year 2006, Wargamer’s Best Action Game 2006, IGN Editor’s Choice and many more.

Heroes of Stalingrad will take the Red Orchestra franchise into the next generation of gaming. Cutting edge graphics and audio built on Unreal Engine 3, inventive features and streamlined realism will deliver an unrivalled WWII experience. Focusing on the Battle of Stalingrad and the surrounding operations, both German and Russian, from July 1942 to February 1943 the game allows the player to experience one of the most brutal battles in all of human history. For the first time ever in a first person shooter gamers will be able to experience WWII from the Axis side in a German single player campaign. As always with the Red Orchestra franchise, we will aim to deliver unrivalled accuracy and attention to detail, along with gritty, vicious combat in multi-player, co-op and solo modes. Again, we have listened to the fans and have designed a whole set of new features to make the game more accessible and easy to get into – all while delivering the tactical shooter realism fans of the original game loved.

There is more information available in the June 2009 issue of PC Gamer both in the UK and US, which will be on the news stands in May. The Heroes of Stalingrad forums are also now open – head to www.HeroesofStalingrad.com for the teaser website and access to the forums. We will be releasing more information about the game over the next weeks and months, so keep checking back! Tripwire Interactive are taking the time to get the game right, so the release date will remain “when it is ready” for the time being.

German singleplayer campaign. Unrivaled attention to accuracy and detail. Co-op. Hell yes.

I wonder how some certain people are going to feel about that though, but I don't care, and neither should they. I mean, we get to play as the Germans in RTS campaigns and whatnot. I'm glad you guys took that step forward to bring us something we've never experienced before.

June 2009 issue? You sure? I've had the US June 2009 issue for a few weeks and it's not in there. Perhaps its the July issue.

A German campaign with co-op?
(I hope this isn't the same joke Epic pulled with UT3. If it's indeed true, bricks will be shat!)

CoH had German campaigns, and most people didn't care much.

But there isn't any WW2 First Person Shooter that has a german single player campaign. That makes RO even more unique than it is already! And with the new UE3 I think RO2 could become a bestseller, which TWI definately deserves!

Oh, yes. I was waiting for this.
But anyway, I hope the Soviet Campaign be made better than the fascist's.
Will there be the mass counter-attack part from both flanks in the later phase of the historical campaign?

Could one not play Axis in BF1942 single player? Or does that not count?

Shouldn't the teaser website say "Website Coming Soon, Very Soon"?

No, because BF1942 single player doesn't have a campaign. You can just fiddle around with bots. Or have I forgot something?

He's right, the single player mode in BF is just like in RO, no campaign, just fighting stupid bots on multiplayer missions. But there's never been a WW2 FPS with a real german campaign.

I believe they mean like the story driven singleplayer in say Brothers in Arms or Call of Duty.

I think the planes will be like in some RO maps, they will just fly over you for immersion but won't be playable. Can't imagine that TWI would build maps with planes just because they would have to be huge, otherwise you would fly over the map in a few seconds

hopefully they will attack ground too and not just fly over you

OMG I'm just imagining how cool a SP campaign can be, combining the good cinematic part of COD with the level of immersion and realism of RO
