Default New/different types of modes for RO:Osfront?

*Ostfront, my bad .

If there's one thing I think RO could use, it's more different varities of objectives for the maps.

The whole "capture this point, for points" has been done to death in almost every new game.

I'd love to see more objective based gameplaying, overtaking a bridge, finding and stopping a convoy (or vice versa, escorting one while the other team tries to stop it), holding an area at all costs (no respawn, once everyone is dead that's that, you either hold it or you don't), etc.

I know I would have more fun over-time with more variety, that's the main thing that starts to kind of wear on me after playing a lot of RO, it just feels lilke i'm doing the same thing, over and over and over with nothing to really "accomplish" bedies holding "x" area for longer then the other team.

It would be cool to have a map were the Germans or Russians have to get a tank from point A to point B and they have only a certain amount of repawns for the tank, say 3 respawns. It would rely heavily on team work keeping the armor alive.

A greater variety of objectives would be nice, though even the existing capture & destroy objectives can be put to good use if you map creatively.

Yeah I would love to see a raise the flag game type where to win the team attacking has to bring their flag and raise it atop the bunker, or somthing like that.

It would also rock if the man with the flag had no weapons, and could only do meele attacks with the flag pole ala Halo/Halo2. Then he could do one of two things to win the match:

1. Raise the flag atop the flag pole.
2. Stand with it at the highest point and wave it back and forth to signal victory!

The Russians and Germans did this kind of trench warfare in WW2, and many of the bunkers in Stalingrad that had to be taken had these kind of objectives for the troops. This was also done in the historic battle for the Richstag, when Russians troops raised the flag atop the German building for vicotry.

Always a good idea!

I have suggested the convoy thing in the old forums before. I really love that idea and the idea of moving a single tank would be cool, too. Especially if it were through like a foggy, forested area.

I believe that the whole objective thing is really up to the mapper, however. I have seen maps with a destruction objective, such as Moscow Highway. I might just try my hand at mapping and see what I can do about better objectives. If the only interesting objective that can be done is destruction I can certainly make an interesting map with that alone: Level the village. That would be fun.

That actually happened in Stalingrad on a hill. It changed hands daily and each time the Germans or Russians would raise their flag. By the end it was covered in bodies, but the Germans had pushed the Russians to the river bank after a while.

I can't remember the details but it is in a Stalingrad book in my closet... I should look it up.

Sort of like UT Series. But for a WW2 game ya i think that would definitally be more fun. Someone can create a mod or a map to do that also if they posess the skills for map making ect.

But if IIRC, on both occasions the flag was not raised until the firefights were over. Nothing like the Warhamemr 40k: Dawn of War intro...
