RO Launch Reboots Computer

Hello all, hope everyone is enjoying RO...I know I'm not .

I loaded it up today, got the first 2%, then the remaining 20% after verification of the files.

After that I try to run the game and it completely reboots the system. Tried to verify files again after reboot just to make sure and everything is fine, or so it seems. Tried running w/o firewall, etc. and still no luck

Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
1 GB RAM
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro

I have the 6.2 drivers I believe...not really sure if its just the video card drivers or what...but Steam has never done this with any other of the games

Any ideas Tripwire staff?

The same thing is happening to me also. I get verified, start the game, and I get a blue screen of death telling me that Windows is shut down to avoid any damage. It's crazy. I'm really disappointed... only had less than 2 hours to play the game before leaving for Nashville.

I had the same problem with beta. To fix it. If you have ZoneAlarm Firewall of Kespria(sp?) firewall. you have to uninstall. Fixed it for me.

You have to uninstall a third party program? WTF, no offense to the creators of this magnificent game, kudos to you and everything, but you can't make it compatible with one of the most popular third party software firewalls????

Can you just not run it? I tried exiting zonealarm and quitting it but it still doesn't work...do I HAVE to uninstall it?

Can some RO Mod or dev please confirm this?

Well, if that's the problem, then I'm already in the process of fixing it. I use ZoneAlarm, and I've already started the download over again. Dang... 145 minutes remaining

Simply turning it off does not work. I tried. You have to uninstall. I thought i saw somewhere though that they have an update to make it compatible. Might try updating?

Are u serious this game doesnt run with Zone alarm, im not turning off my firewall for a flood of pricks sending as mutch spyware trojans u name it to my pc. Im busy verifying crap atm but i hope zone alarm wont mess up on my pc ortherwise im looking for a new free firewall. No firewall no thanks

Uninstalling ZA got rid of my Blue screen of death, BUT now I get "this game is currently unavailable"

Nice quality product you have here Valve. Why in the world can't I even launch PRACTICE MODE?

Unacceptable. I payed for Zonealarm Pro, and if I have to uninstall my only firewall just to play this game, I'd like my 25 bucks back please.

Stanislav, thanks for your input, you are correct it works as soon as I uninstalled Zonealarm.

I'm still completely in shock that this group of guys that are bringing us this great game can't make it compatible with ZA. Seriously. WTF.

I HAVE FOUND THE FIX! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO UNINSTALL! In ZA, go to program tab then to program control and add the RO executable (steamapps/RO/system), set it to super trusted (3 green bars) and allow server access. Then send ZA to tray and launch RO, after a min it will load AND YOU CAN PLAY!

I think Byte Me is correct. I use Norton and have lots of trouble with games if you dont add them manually to the trusted exe list

I just tried that byte, and it crashed again, same.

Did you set anythin special in the security options for it after you added?

Yea I also tried to clear it through the selected programs in ZA but it still didn't work. It only worked when I fully uninstalled it....lame.

What version of ZA are you all using? I'm using the free version, and yes it is updated .

Atleast I got RO to work...odd that we haven't heard anything from the devs yet

Note i have thread up in main, please post there if you have ZA probs. yes it might be moved to support (it probably will, i was just trying to get the word out as fast as possible, devs need all the help they can get) but ZA probs should have its own thread (reboot probs might be caused by something else besides ZA), reguardless of where it is.

you wont hear a reply from the devs until at least 24 hours, there all in IRC pulling there hair out coz they basicaly F*cked up (maybe not so much them but valve(steam) .. and there trying to fix what should have already been fixed by the beta testers .. so expect an update very soon.

Uh... this isnt funny. these problems could put tripwire out of business. Hopefully though most if not all probs will be fixed by the time the boxes hit retail stores. Most of the problems are minor and this being the companies first game and comming from the back round they do, i hope word of mouth is not TOO harsh.

Hmm, that one says a graphics driver did it. Try updating your video drivers.

I cant remember if it talked about a stuck thread in my BSODs tho... Does anyone else get that Stuck_thread clause in their vsdatant.sys BSOD?
