Default Pure custom goodness

Right, been away from RO for a while but played a few rounds of Kriegstadt yesterday and it felt great, really atmospheric and intense. I always loved these sort of maps, very ambitious, epic and a proper combined arms theme. I dunno... they just feel ALOT more realistic than your average sized map.

But my problem is while this map IS getting exposure and plenty of play time (and rightly so) others havent - Mainly im thinking of Myshkova River... i think i only ever got to play that map once and loved it. Its just not on any server and when it is there on a vote list people just vote for some kind of danzig or arad rehash.

So my idea is if theres anyone out there with a good server thats not getting the traffic, and wants to be a hero, why not set up a server for 24/7 custom maps that you vote for with a poll on these forums. Change the map week to week according to the poll and then you've got a place where everyone can properly test and play the chosen map. Im sure it would be good for the mappers.. cuz on a 24/7 server people actually get time to learn the map and can then give you better feedback than.. "played this map twice and russians won both times... therefore it's ****ing pap"

Also for people who really like the whole massive progressive map thing like me (im pretty sure the market is out there.. there seemes to be a core group of people i used to see regularly on kriegstadt) it gives us a place to give the map a good run with fellow skilled players... and we could even organise times on these forums where a big group could meet up and buss the map together.

TO start with, you could have a vote between Krieg, Gorlitz(another horribly underplayed awesome map), Myshkova, Elnya and more. (im sure other people could think of more maps of a similar scale). Also, the voting on the forum hopefully would eradicate some of the really bizzare choices made on vote servers.... cuz you got time to think about it...

So, come on someone.. get it done... (preferably a Euro... purely for selfish ping reasons)

Myshkova River was one of the best maps ever untill the new bloom came out.....

A very historically accurate map.

SO theres somepeople with enuff money to keep an empty server going.. why not put it to use..?

Bloom can be tweaked (by the mapper)

It would be good to have a big server with a player base which only runs custom maps.

And sometimes servers are empts because of the time zones when you see an empty 50 player server it doesn't say its empty the whole day

24/7 one custom map doesn't sound good, you need like 5 custom maps, or just find the all-custom servers and play on them.

The problems are this,

People like to play and play fast, and because of that only join full servers, or if they cant find it join a server they know will fill up fast.

All those empty 32, 40 or 50 player servers wont fill up by letting them run 5 custom maps 24/7. It needs people to fill it up and to fill up an unknown server you need at least say 12 people that can stay and play for a few hours to get things really going.

If you can get it going like every day this way at some point you get regulars the problem is custom map servers are harder to fill up these days because with the addition of some custom maps to stock ro. People don't feel that bored with the default map list anymore and just play maps running those maps.

If you can make sure with a group of say 16 people that you always play on that server EVERYDAY for a few hours then they might listen to your idea. Its just that you probably cant get 16 people and especially not 16 that can play everyday for a few hours.

Having a filled server is not that easy in RO

I like smaller servers, where the action is slower.....where I can sit and wait for people rather than have 5 PPSH soldiers charge me.
