I finished the game without any voices at all because I had some kind of sound bug, and I didn't even notice that and i thought it was great.

LOL! Check the game options.

You should have at least turned the subtitles on, to get the idea what the voice says (it's fun).

I used subtitles simply because I had problems understanding the voice sometimes.

If you pre-order the game and the preload is interrupted for any reason some of the sound files go missing. I noticed this with Ep2, Alyx's mouth would move but no speech! Was the weirdest thing. I thought the portal explosion made everyone mute.

As for Portal, fun game, nice concept, excellent execution, but yes very gimmicky. Hardly game of the year material. I got paused a couple times, but never really was stumped in the sense I had to go on a website or something for answers. To me it just feels like a giant training exercise to introduce the portal gun for Ep 3.

Now watch every new game have a portal gun.

Then you gotta get that fixed and play it again! without the humour its just a somewhat short puzzle game with portals, the humour is what makes it really good!

And yes, it is good, but the truth is that its a gimmick, and it will grow old soon, thats how it allways goes with thease things.

First time I went through the game I also had no voices, in my case due to old drivers, I think. I thought it was much more surreal and sinister without the voice.

Agree with the OP. One of the best damn games ever. Heck, the whole Orange Box is proving to be quite the gem.

Hm, i have to go against the consensus and say that i didn't find it... tremendously funny as it has apparently everyone in stitches here. I thought it was a neat little game (even though i have a grudge against puzzles) and fairly entertaining, the voice over just didn't make me 'roofles' as much as i expected given what people are saying.

The credits surely were the best credits ever however.

Maybe i'm just a humourless git.

I think that's an indictment of the gaming industry as much as anything--people are so excited to actually be entertained that they go a little overboard. What if most games made you feel as happy as Portal did? That would be a nice place to be.

I've completed the orginal story (yes.. the credits are worth it!), and did a few of the challenges..

Now i"m playing through again with the Commentary.. some of it's sort of interesting.. some of it's just jibber-jabber.... but they do tell you how to basically gold, one anyhow, one of the the bonus maps.
