I owe a lot to RO, I started playing way back when, not long after UT2004 was released. It was my first online multiplayer wargame and i never looked back. I was with it through all the patches, felt the excitement as a new version was due out and pwned with the best of them. Sort of drifted away after the momentum was introduced and got more and more into Battlefield with my clan (who I met on these boards), but I am really excited about this new release and have already purchased, as have most of my clan mates.

I had forgotten that they changed the name of WWII Online to "Battleground Europe."

The game has evolved quite a bit, and yet in many ways it is the same game. I don't know when you stopped playing, but they recently added the Tiger (PzVIE), which has drawn a lot of players.

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with it. At times, I'm convinced that it's the best game ever. At other times, I really have to wonder what CRS (the developer) is thinking.

To be honest, its infantry gameplay is extremely weak compared to most other FPSs. They have almost no weapons to deal with the brazillion tanks that show up at every battle, and their client-side shooting rules make for some strange gameplay (LOTS of simulkills due to lag).

I guess the problem with making a game of the scope of WWIIOL, where you have the entirety of Western Europe one one map (!) and EVERY player is logged into the same server, there are concessions that need to be made. In a lot of ways, WWIIOL feels like a 1990's game. But it also is in a format that no other game has yet to provide (full tactical warfare in a strategic environment).

I left in november of 2004, after playing since like... mid 2002.

Have they fixed the major gameplay issues, like spawning into empty towns and driving 45 minutes to the fight only to die 3 minutes later from bad luck?

If you want to put together a large, organized armored assault, yes, you need to spawn a few towns back or so. But the addition of MSPs allowed infantry to spawn in and run for maybe one or two minutes and be in the thick of the fighting.

R6, RS, RO, (almost feel like a pirate.)
havent had anything lately that comes close to fixing my jones for the gameplay RO got me hooked on.
everything else just seems like a game. RO felt like much, much more.
and soon RO's prettier, bustier, friendlier sister is coming to town. i cant wait.

I won't list all the FPS games I have played, it would be easier too list the ones I haven't.

1) Forgotten hope for Battlefield 1942 I have played for years and still do actively, I just love all of the equipment in it!

2) "RO Mod" I still play once in a while but played a lot around the time the RO devs won the Make something Unreal contest.
