I was talking to a friend who's doing a little work at Fort Leavenworth, which led me to the Center for Army Lessons Learned, which led to an Internet search, which ...
Anyway, found some stuff that might be of interest: https://calldbp.leavenworth.army.mil/calldb.html WWII stuff mixed in. Search doesn't like me. http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/about.php Combined Arms Research Library, whatever that is. I went through just one section and found: http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_vi...OPTR=331&REC=8 Petsamo-Kirkenes Operation: Soviet breakthrough and pursuit in the Arctic, October 1944. http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_vi...PTR=355&REC=10 Soviet airborne experience. http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_vi...PTR=361&REC=11 Soviet defensive tactics at Kursk, July 1943. http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_vi...PTR=353&REC=18 Standing fast: German defensive doctrine on the Russian front during World War II: prewar to March 1943. http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_vi...OPTR=503&REC=8 Short guide to Iraq (circa 1943). Not useful to RO, but could be interesting. Hope this helps someone. |

Yup - I've been there, seen it, grabbed the lot - a long time ago. That would something to do with an acquaintance by the name of David Glantz (Col, US Army, Retd). He was instrumental in setting up a lot of the Soviet Studies at Leavenworth, hence the proliferation of interesting Soviet-related pieces in those libraries

I hadn't noticed Wilson's list before. Good stuff; thanks!
I -did- notice the conspicious absence of Vasili Chuikov's memoirs of Stalingrad, though -- unless I just missed it and my search failed. Bookfinder.com has it for about $20. |

Ooh!
I originally found the book for about $17 (probably about 8 pounds), before shipping, through bookfinder.com, which mostly searches North American booksellers. You got me to Google and find http://www.usedbooksearch.co.uk/ Which actually lead me back to American sites Which turned up this lot for $4: books, Russia, WWII: ESCAPE FROM TERROR; THE FALL OF BERLIN; STALINGRAD; THE RUSSIAN CONVOYS various authors: David Howarth; Bill Basansky; Marshal Vasili I. Chuikov; Heinz Schroter; B.B. Schofield So I wound up getting the book for about 1/4 market rate, plus three others. Thanks! =) Edit: Hey, if you ever happen to find a cheap copy of Gerald Bull's Paris Kanonen ........... =) |

Interesting details about these two: Chuikov's book was called "The End of the Third Reich" in the UK and Schröter was an official 6th Army war correspondent.
Panther Books, 1969 paperback: ![]() This one a 1960 Pan paperback edition: ![]() Good luck hunting down the supergun book! |

I took another look; I was deceived by the four books, five semicolons, five authors thing. It looks like they're sending Chuikov's Berlin book, rather than the Stalingrad book, as you discerned. Eh, should still be interesting reading.
I'm guessing you do a lot of reading? =) |
