Default Match sizes

Hi all!

I'm currently a clan player of Battlefield 2, and before that Battlefield 1942. Ever since the launch of Battlefield 2 I have felt the urge for something more realistic and WWII. Battlefield 1942 were kind of good at it's time, but got outdated with no future support from the developers.

Now I'm eagerly looking forward of the RO:OF release but some questions are still there!
1. How big is the usual team size in clans for each game? (i.e. 4on4, 6on6, 8on8 and so on)
2. I've understood there are no airplanes in the game whatsoever, but are tanks possible in clan games?

Would be happy if anyone could fill me in on this since I personally mostly attach to games where the possibility of greater sportsmanship (clan gaming) is available.

Thanks.

The usual team size for a clan match at RO:Ladder is 8vs8, but 16vs16 has been done several times. Yes, tanks are possible in clan matches, but thus far not many clans have chosen a tank map for a match. When it happens though, It is a lot of fun.

I expect Ostfront will bring the advent of many more clan matches with tanks now that the system is more refined aka comletely redone and WAY better.

Well, there are 2 ladders to choose from for ostfront. You have ROLadder (www.roladder.com) which is run by members of this forum, and of various clans. In that you can decide on which size clan matches you want. the most common is 6v6 IIRC, but they can go all the way up to 16v16 if the clans really wanted to.

There is also battle for europe http://ro.battleforeurope.com which is organised matches of 16v16, including tank and custom maps where you fight for just one team with organised tactics, ranks etc. etc. I used to be a part of this before work got in the way and it was by far the best experience of RO I ever had, even at 180 ping (the server is US, I'm euro)

There is also another ladder opening up for ostfront soon enough and the TWL.

and in answer to 2. No, there are no aeroplanes, but tanks are usable. Most clan matches will make use of infantry only maps, or combined arms maps (with few tanks)

BFE (Battle for europe) makes use of every map. 16 v 16 matches on tank maps were absolutely awesome.

hope this helps

All information is only from my expierience with the MOD-VErsion of the game:

1.Clan-wars where usually played 6on6/7on7...sometimes 8on8 or even 10on10!
you need a minimum of 6 players to play clanmatches.
2.Of course, tanks are possible in clangames. But they where not common, cause tankmaps used to lag on most of the servers.
But the netcode got improved for RO:OSTFRONT....and i can tell you that its much fun to play a tankmap on a full server! (even with a 230ping!)

I bet that tankmaps will become more popular in the new RO
(damn some where faster then me)

What this gentleman said is correct. Minimum amount of players at http://www.roladder.net is 6 vs 6 but thats not a rule. If both clans have more then 6 players they can play a big clan match. There have even been 16 vs 16 clanmatches. Tanks were usualy not used in clanmatches but this will change for sure with Ostfront. If you have any other question, then dont be afraid to ask. You can also find us on IRC on quakenet. Channel is called #roladder

Regards,
ro:ladder team

For quick and easy access to the #roladder channel, you can use our 13th Panzer IRC java applet (pjIRC).

6vs6 hardly gets played anymore lately, of all the clanmatches i've played i think that 8vs8/9vs9 is the best combination of players. although big matches are alot of fun they are completely different in gameplay and more chaotic aswell :P (because of the difference i'd like for ROladder to add more ladders but we first must get a nice and big community to allow more ladder styles :P)

Depending on the ostfront maps the limit may be increased to 8v8 minimum.

And we will most defenitley see tank maps in roladder with the relase of ostfront.

Well... 8vs8 games ain't that bad! In BF2 we play 8vs8 games, in BF1942 it was 10vs10 on default. The reason I'm asking is mostly because if a game demands too much people in each clan the community suffers from A) Fewer amount of clans and B) less chance of getting practice matches / wars.

Thanks for all the answers, this community really seem to be settled allready, which I find very good!
