I have absolutely zero knowledge of moding, so could anyone tell me how difficult would be to create mod where all maps would be played in night (very dark but still able to see when someone moves somewhere), every soldier would have 1 flare and and some pistol able to shoot it (beside normal equipemnt). The point would be night fight and just bonus ability to shoot flare in the air high above the battle field so this could lighten some area...

There´s no dynamic lighting in RO and the maps are lit by much much more than just a sunlight, so in order to change the daytiome in a map you would have to completely redo the lighting plus the skybox plus fogsettings in various zones of the map.
Obviously it doesn´t take as long as creating a new map, but its rather time comsuming. The flargun would need dynamic lights which are not suported by the engine. All you can do it make it light its surroundings, but the light won´t cast shadows and it will shine through objects. The gun itself has to be modeled and scripted. Such a mod would be possible but it would be a lot of work. It would be interesting to see though. Nightmissions in Operation Flashpoint rock...

Dynamic Lighting IS supported by the Unreal Engine. It's (part of) what Unreal Engine 1.0 was marketed for.

Olga's is correct;
It's just having a dynamic light with the radius sufficient to implement a proper flare gun would choke most of the hardware out there (or rather, that was the consensus when impl a flare gun was discussed in the mod many many moons ago.. so the average hardware might be good enough now? I dunno...) |

Quote:
Its possible in some modifactions of it (recent Splinter Cell games) but not in the version that ships with RO or UT2004. You can use what´s there but it won´t look all too good. Maybe you can fake a flare effect with projectors.
