Default Covering should be improved...here's an idea!!!

We all know that the covering in RO2 is something new to FPS genre, but the problem with this feature is that it's not as useful as without it...

So here's a suggestion that I think would make useful for everyone...
For those who played Far Cry 3, that games covering system works quite well for gameplay and implementing something similiar to RO2 would surely add more pros rather than cons to the gameplay.

ADVANTAGES FOR THE SUGGESTED COVERING SYSTEM:

1. No need to waste time adding "cover nodes" to your map.
2. No need to press additional button to take cover behind something, because the system would work dynamically(hope the word is used correct ).
3. Player would move more freely while taking cover, rather than feel glued to the wall)!!!

FEATURES FOR THE SUGGESTED COVERING SYSTEM:
*Covering:

When a soldier approaches near the wall his gun is being held UP(like in current covering system) or DOWN(like in current game system when you approach near to the wall).
*Aiming:
When the soldier tries to aim - his head will pop-up with his gun while aiming.
*Blindfire:
The same way could also work with blind fire by just simply hiding behind an object or a wall and pressing the firing key to begin blind shooting.

It's not clear for me what you are proposing.

I think he means that like Far Cry 3, all the cover stuff should automatically happen when we walk into the cover.

Exactly!!!
Far Cry 3 covering system would fit well for RO2, IMO.

Not a bad idea in general, but personally, I would rather decide when I entered cover or not.

I will say that I have not tried Far Cry 3...

Never tried FC3, but this seems like it'd be terrible in trenches though. If they could make it work dynamically that'd be cool though.

I don't think implementing this would be very easy or feasible... the whole system is already built, and deployable weapons currently depend heavily on the covernode system...

I hate the current system, the way some nodes will attract your weapon magnetically when not in cover, rendering spots useless unless you move far enough away to expose yourself. Forcing you to enter into cover and become a Jack in the Box.

I never use it.

It's not really a -question- of doing the cover system dynamically..of course you want to do that. Anything else is unquestionably inferior. The covernode system is a shortcut. Dynamically determining & animating cover use is tricky and a lot of programmer work to cover all the many edge cases that can crop up, and TWI is seriously short on programmer power, so they decided to offload it onto the mappers by using a canned approach. It's the same compromise with reality that got features like the MP campaign cut. (and that one's still AWOL...)

Covernodes don't do anything at all if you haven't explicitly activated them with the Use, Cover, or Deploy (for bipod weapons) keys.

I don't know what it is then, but there are times I'll be peaking around an obstacle and when ADS, the barrel of my weapon gets sucked around towards the cover, making it impossible to accurately aim. It's not sway, it's a directional movement.

Hi there.

Disagree. Because we should be free. We dont want to automatically attach to a wall or be attracted to the wall like a magnet.

I do not use this cover system ever. Its slow squared glumpsy etc..
Beeing free its way much better. way much better.
this is not time crisis with the paddle. please

When we have two players dueling I bet 1000 times on the usual free player behind a cover against the player that is using the cover system

You mean your weapon is colliding with the wall. Completely different.

...same here. I don't think many players would like to enter cover position automatically. It could be an option in game settings nonetheless.

I like the current system. Sometimes it doesn't work really well, but most of time it's pretty much fun to use it.

Having seen the Farcry 3 cover sytem in the other thread, I must say I'm fully behind this:

...it's actually incredibly intuitive, and I believe would benefit this game to no end.

What happens is, when you move up to cover, your gun pushes against it, then if you right click (ironsights) you pop over or around the cover. Dead simple and not half as annoyingly clunky and cumbersome as the current system.

Skip to 0:50 to see it in action.

I did get a chance to see the video, it looks nicely done.

I would still prefer to decide when and if I enter cover. If anything like this should be adopted, it would be nice to have a toggle in the options menu so players can opt out of it, similar to auto or manual bolting.
