Default "An error occurred while installing Red Orchestra 2 (connection timeout)"

Events as experienced:

- I woke yesterday morning and noticed that I have to download 4,279 MB worth of patch.

- I checked out patch notes, but found no updates about it on Steam and it's quite hard to find anything related to fixes or patches on forums.

- In the meantime my light went off which caused some strange problem: I had to download something around 11 GB worth of content (or something like that, most likely full weight of the game). I paused download then unpaused and had to download 4.7 GB.

- Downloading went to 47% and has stopped with note "download suspended".

- I found this topic, saw that it's recommended to set "opt out of beta" (not sure if I had it on before, probably yes and that's why I have this problem now) so I switched beta off.

- It looks like I have to download 1.2 MB, but download is suspended (state switches from suspended to downloading from time to time with no real effect).

- Deleted the local game catche (I verified it twice, to no avail). Download is still suspended or can't download.

- I tried to install the game directly from the DVD to at least speed up the process once the problem is solved (I only guess it's on the other end, but some people seem to download content without problems?), but after a long period of "Creating local game cache files" and in overall "preparing files for install" I receive message:

An error occurred while installing Red Orchestra 2 (connection timeout).

That sometimes happens when steam is completely lost. You probably got it in that state when you decided to pause the download of the beta (cos that was the one that it was downloading) and then switched off the opt in beta and continued the download.

My advice is to follow the next steps:
  1. Delete the local RO2 content (right-click RO2 and select Delete local content), after that exit steam.
  2. Go to your SteamApps\Common folder (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common) and delete the complete Red Orchestra 2 folder.
  3. Restart steam, right-click on RO2 and select INSTALL
Steam will now do a fresh RO2 installation (you will have a lot of time to drink coffee). You can leave the <My Documents>\My Games\RedOrchestra2 folder as it is, because that one should still be compatible with your last working RO2 installation.

I tried to reinstall once more from DVD and it worked this time on its own (content of DVD has been installed) and "download suspended" seems to be gone. I'll keep it open for a few more days to see if Steam wil update the game without further problems.

Thanks for your help all the same.
