Default Why you should not Drag and Drop Static Meshes

Hello. If you read my first guide and learned how to use the udk/sdk through the video tutorials I linked, then I think you are ready for this one!

FIRST RULE OF STATIC MESH CLUB
DON'T DRAG AND DROP THE STATIC MESH FROM THE CONTENT BROWSER TO THE TERRAIN.

That's right. If you want to be part of Static Mesh Club, you should not be dragging and dropping. This guide will tell you why.

So first, ROStaticMeshObstacles do not interact with bots very well. In fact they tell bots to not even come near. So if you had a forest of ROStaticMeshObstacles, the bots will avoid it like a plague. So then you say, "I HATE BOTS AND I DON'T PLAN ON INCLUDING THEM!" Too bad, you still need to use proper Static Meshes.

Lets see some cool tricks you can do with only static meshes.

Spoiler!

So here I have some fences and trees that I properly placed down. They are static meshes. I want to select all my fences. So I right click on one and go to (1) Select -> Select Matching Static Meshes. There! You see? I select all the fences.

Spoiler!

So I do the same with the trees. I go to (2) Select -> Select Matching Static Meshes.

Spoiler!

So I realized I wanted dead trees instead. So I go into my content browser and select (3) BrokenTree_B_SM. With all my current trees selected, I right click and (4) Replace -> (5) Add StaticMesh:.....

You can see that I was able to replace my live trees with my dead trees.

Spoiler!

Here we look at the static meshes in the top viewport and see that they are blue green color.

Spoiler!

Now they are ROStaticMeshObstacles. You can see the color changed to yellow.

Spoiler!

Lets select all the trees and replace them with the live ones. So I right click a tree and go to Select -> and WTF WHERE IS SELECT MATCHING STATIC MESHES?! Maybe (6) Select All ROStaticMeshObstacles will work.

Spoiler!

It selected all of them...Now you know why you DON'T DRAG AND DROP.

Your static meshes should be BLUE GREEN color not YELLOW

Welcome to Static Mesh Club!

Also, bots cannot go through doorframes that are ROStaticMeshObstacles, which is quite problematic!

Using ROStaticMeshObstacles causes you to not spawn! Please don't drag and drop!
