Default Some noob questions about game

Hi all!
I don't have the game now but i am wondering if i should try it. From most videos it seems to me that it's a fun game, but i would have some questions before i take it really seriously

Firstly, i have an old comp: 2 GB RAM, Quad Core Q6600 (not overclocked) and 9600GT video card, XP 32 bit. It's quite weak for games like this but the minimum requirements i found are not above this so maybe it worths a try?

Then, does it have any form of free trial (demo version)? Would be nice but i haven't found one so i guess there aren't one.

3. Do i really need to have Steam? Or this is just heavily recommended?

4. Are there enough players so that i could even choose from maps and game modes? Honestly, please
Which modes are most popular?

I have the same OS, ram and video card as you, but a weaker CPU: dual core 6600. After some tweaking you can run it on medium settings at an fps in the range of 40 - 50 - 60, so yes, playable.

Our old intel e6300 core 2 duo with a Nvidia 7600GT could play it medium (shadows had to be on low) when RO2 came out. Consider that back then RO2 would run at a slower rate before they optimized the code more for extra frames per second. Your system would play it faster for sure.

Hello,
about your question 3 : you MUST have steam to download RO 2. There is no another solution.

To answer #3, yes. Steam is required.

For #4, it depends on the time of day. Weekends have the most number of populated servers. The most popular game type is "Realism" mode on the server browser, though on the forums, it seems to be "Classic" mode. I don't see a lot of Action mode servers, but its possible I filtered those out.

Thanks for answers! I would probably be most interested in Classic mode but i can't tell it for sure cause i have never tried
Regarding servers, what do you think, will i find a populated one with classic or realistic settings on a 'good' map (let's say i will like half of the maps) on weekdays ~18.00-20.00 GMT or just weekends?

Playing from the UK, I have 11 servers in my favourites (5 are in the US but maintain pings under 150, which is fine with client side hit detection).

I play between 7 pm and 2 am GMT and three of the servers I generally have to queue to join. The others are always populated, but player numbers range between 10 and 64 dependent on the map at the time, mode, etc.

If you was interested in the videos then the game will be worth it.As its more satisfying to play than to watch. It has a learning curve learning the maps as much of RO is about position. Its very rewarding as you learn the game and become a more effective player.

Your PC should run this game NP as others have stated. While this type of game may not be every ones cup of tea with one shot kills etc.The core game is solid though and even offers much more innovation than the other two big fps's as they are a pure copy and paste of previous games.

Besides our little community has some of the best players/people in any fps (hands down)

Hope to see ya in the trenches !!

Maybe in the near future
One more question: A thing that i noticed in gameplay videos is that there is a lot of HUD or whatever on the screen, even in the middle. While i think those icons show important information about map and objectives, i still have to say they look quite strange in the middle of Stalingrad
So is there a way to remove them or i would have to live with that?

Atm, the only thing you can remove is the texts like 'press button X to go to cover'. You can also toggle the HUD completely off, but then you don't see text messages no more.
