Default Forcing lowest LOD on static mesh objects

For a mesh that has multiple LOD's is there any way to force the editor to use the material with the lowest LOD or otherwise allow only the most basic material to be used? I'm trying to get the most trees for my money and figured that this would be a good place to start (come on CombineStaticMesh tool )

static mesh properties ---> StaticMeshActor -----> StaticMeshComponent ----> change "Force Lod Model" value. zero is default.

Awesome! Thanks, Wolverine. It's so nice not to have that annoying pop-in effect any more. And even better, I don't have to pay for all of those extra triangles.
