RO2 is very innovative. Not as innovative as OST, but still. I see it as a semi-realistic shooter, with a little bit more focus on tactical gameplay, with a very hardcore attitude to it. It's far removed from arma and quite far removed from battlefield aswell.

Is it better than CoD?

Even though I don't play CoD (since COD2), I'd say: RO2 will never deliver what you're looking for in CoD: so no, its not better.

But really, all these responses are pointless. If you haven't taken the guest pass from AsoBit for whatever reason, just ask pretty much anyone for a guest pass and try it yourself.

Red Orchestra 2 is the only game that captures a perfect "war" atmosphere. People screaming in horror, pain and agony, and dying by the first, second or third bullet.

My copy didn't show but I did indeed get a guest pass. Loving the game, close quarter maps better than the ice one, just die so often on that one its embarrassing. Never even see where it came from. Controls hurt my left hand, finding them hard compared to a 360 controller. Other than that it's great, glad I gave it a go. Even runs on Ultra on my pc in 1080p which is a bonus. One thing I would say, it could do with a training mode or play first level of the sp when played like this, it's hard as nails being dropped in the deep end.

One question, it may be a silly one to some. I've purchased my copy off the net, do I have to delete my guest copy and install the new one or just enter the code? Where or when would I enter the code? Thanks in advance.

No, just keep the files saved on your PC. To enter the code, look at the bottom-left of the Steam window and click ADD A GAME> Activate a Product on Steam... > and enter the product key from there.

Ostfront was a modified port of the UT2k4 Mod & besides a graphical update & a couple of new additional trinkets & adjusted game play mechanics, it was the same thing as the mod, including many of the stock maps.

In comparison, RO2 was a lot more innovative.

That depends on what he liked about CoD

I use the Arrow Key setup... the keys are better spaced apart so if I'm not looking at the keyboard, I can still feel where my fingers are in comparison to the keys. I never liked the WASD setup.

Well with age comes wisdom...no seriously you have to decide for yourself. Start with Action or Realism first and if you feel the pace is too quick then give Classic a try.

I played some rounds on Realism servers two nights ago and am so happy that Classic mode exists. Realism for me is way too fast, twitchy, fantasy weapon loadout and unbalanced as people with higher ranks will have stat boni which does not make it beginner friendly, however in Classic, even though all the weapons and avatars have the same stats, the gameplay is more unforgiving and more hardcore in that regard so again can be frustrating to start with but equal chances for all and most importantly "NO ENEMY WEAPON LOADOUT!" which is a major turnoff for me in realism.

WASD might take you some time to get used too (took me a long time coming from arrow keys and Wolfenstein 3D etc.) but in the long run it is the best option and most efficient and most games are tailored to that layout.

So short term might be difficult. Once it is an automatism it has an advantage at least with the way your hands are positioned (unless you are left handed).

I'm using the arrow-key setup for as long as I'm into pc-gaming (17 years or so).
I have rather big hands, and the space around those keys is just perfect for me, with the numpad and upper and left keygroup around them just within reach of my fingertips.
If I can't customize a game's controls to my likings (being it in setup or some ini-file), I refuse to buy it :P
