Less is more with Teamspeak.

Commander and SL's using it to get everyone on same page seems to work best on the full servers I have been on. When you have 10 people on one team barking orders, complaining about others, and screaming whenever they die.... it does lose its effectiveness.

Right - that's why you're prepared after this for the public servers
In the pubs you have ppl with very low graphic, who can see through grass and trees like the AI . You also have very good players that can shoot you through most of the covers(which allow this ofc) and who can turn around and shoot you in a second as well.

I'll probably be lynched for saying this, but I think CoD had a pretty good approach to the subject, and that is lower level exclusive servers. I think that if Tripwire were to host 2 or 3 servers that only take lvl.20 or under players, especially during sales and free weekends, you would see a huge increase in new player staying. As annoying as it is for experienced players to be swamped by new ones, it is equally frustrating for the new ones to be killed so easily by the old ones. I say that the next free weekend, there should be servers specifically designed to let the new guys have at eachother and become better by doing so.

I'd be inclined to agree, being one of the new influx guys. But at the same time, that only helps in a couple (very helpful, mind) ways, like uniform identification and shooting with a reasonable amount of accuracy. What is really helpful is when the veteran players use their knowledge to educate the newer guys.

In almost every match I've played so far, someone at least 10 honor levels ahead of me has been in a SL or TL position, and while not everyone asks, I generally ask for directives.

Bridges is a good example; A good team leader (and receptive new guys) can win the game for the Russians, as he can usually get them moving aggressively. Without the Veterans to point this out, a lot of the new guys, scared of seeing the loadout menu for the 15th time, stay camped on the wrong side of the bridge, contributing nothing.

A new guy server isn't a BAD idea by any means, but generally the best way to learn is by being brave enough to use the mic and ask for directions, and give it a go. If nothing else, the Vet's will have you pushing for the caps. At worst, they stay silent, but nothing is stopping you from shadowing them and learning by example.

I had a TL today who needed an Engineer; a Class I never used before. By the end, I managed to learn how to blow up tank barriers, and a great deal of command and control from someone who knew their stuff far more then I did, meaning that if I ever find myself in that position I'd have something resembling a clue on what to do. Which is more then I would have gotten playing on a lower-ranked server.

Tehlulzpare you make very good points. I try to approach the game in a similar manner with an open mind and seeking guidance. I really think many new players come in with this mind set and aren't all COD burnouts looking for next big thing.

I think both should exist in tandem with eachother. Old players should be very understanding and helpful towards new ones, especially during times when there is a huge influx of new players. New players should also have a few servers of their own as a refuge from being constantly killed by older ones. This is not to say that there are no good new players, of course, but letting them have a place to practice for a week or so on their own without having to deal with the messy world of bots would also be helpful. Unlike CoD, I certainly dont think that the new player servers should be compulsive, only an option should they choose it. If I remember correctly, in CoD you were forced to be in a noob server for 10 levels before being sent off to the world of being owned by the homophobic 12 year olds of the world (thankfully, we dont have too many of those), which I think is one other reason people would choose an alternative, more mature fps.

And yeah, I dont think that all new players are CoD burnouts. I think some are CoD players who want something more realistic, and others may be PR/Arma players who want something with a little more action. I know I started playing this because I was tired of ending up playing Paradox strategy games for 3 hours longer than I had originally intended, and RO allows you to manage your time in a much neater way.
