What about the eastern front of World War 1, or the Russian Civil War?

Ideally, the RO2 guys should be doing a new 'Ostfront' 1941-1945 and a 'West Front' 1944-1945. I really want to play a RO2 game set in the Normandy battles or the Ardennes offensive. |

Although it's a standalone game, not a mod for RO2, it will be still based on the Unreal Engine 3. Last edited by Keystone; 10-11-2012 at 05:16 PM. |

Any future game should have the same heavy focus on riflemen, or at least a similar mainstay in battles. If there were any single thing that I would say contributes to the success and unique quality of Ost and RO2, it would be the fact that there are not 30 snipers, machine gunners, or assault troopers on every team. This is realistic sure, but the real reason it is great is that it generally favors more intelligent play in more than a few ways. Like bad movies, which increasingly seem to use special effects and big name actors to replace good storytelling, bad games often try to cram as many features in as possible, and are of the mindset that limiting players in any way is bad. Sure restraint can be bad sometimes, but without the intelligent use of restraint you get shallow games just as surely as you get bad art.

I think the earlier the better for games though, so I'd be down for WWI or Spanish Civil War as an offshoot from the main series (IE many many more bolt action rifles). |

As much as I enjoy shooting bolt action rifles at targets 120 meters plus, I simply don't like playing with them in competitive multiplayer. Working the bolt action is a handicap. The 5 round magazine capacity is a handicap. It doesn't even matter that I hit 40% per shot fired with my mosin or kar... I want a SVT or G41 as soon as possible. I throw kills and my own life on the table when I use them in the attack. Bolt actions do better in concealed defense though, but still, I prefer the superior firepower of the SVT/G41. I would much prefer a playing as bolt action in a WW1 game. In this game, bolt action rifles are impaired in the arms race. Quote:

If we're talking about another WWII game from TWI, I'd like to either see
A: A new IP, not set on the eastern front. or B: A game that's actually about the spy network "Red Orchestra" |

I think an interesting WWII theater that has largely been ignored would be the early war (1939-1941) with the German conquests of Poland, France, the Low Countries, et cetera, as well as the Italian botches of Southern France and North Africa. It would be cool to have the more retero tanks, MGs, and other features, and also include some of the ignored players of WWII (IE France, Italy and Poland.) An interesting, ahistorical game could be set in the German invasion of the UK. Bear with me, but I think a German seaborne invasion facing British MG's could make a damn fun map, as well as the infinite potential for urban and rural settings. |
