Default [Question] How much can your server handle?

Just would like to know how many slots people are running on there server without lagging? For me, I'm running 30 slots with custom contents, but it would lag when the server is nearly full. Usually happens when we're all grouped together and fighting the boss or anything, our ping would shoot up 3x the amount and start warping around a bit. Our shots would be delayed firing and most of the time it wouldn't even register when that happens. Has anyone have these kind of issues on there servers and what solution you've found to remedy this problem?

Only thing I can really say is host less slots. Perhaps 18 or 24. Something like that.

You're either running out of memory or your CPU is red lining. Monitor it when it's near full to see which is which. If it's memory, adding more or reducing other services/programs running can help with that. If it's the CPU you can upgrade or run fewer slots.

If it's not those things it could be the amount of bandwidth you have available. Each slot takes up about 10kB/s and this is primarily upsteam.

Thing is it can't be memory since I have 2847 MB of available memory and I have 4-Core on my server. When the lag happens, I check my CPU usage and it's at 19.80 % out of the 4-Core. So I honestly don't know what can be the issue and yes I know Killing Floor is only Single Threaded so it wouldn't utilized the extra cores. Any Idea?

Edit - Would like to note this server is on a rented VPS.

Do you have guaranteed access to those 4 cores or is it an equal share setup?

I run 8, 6 slot servers with 2 cores at: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz and 3gB of memory without any issues

Yes, I have garanteed access to those 4 cores. I only run 2 servers, 1 with 30 slots and the other with 20 slots at: Intel Xeon E5-2690 @ 2.9ghz and 4gB of memory.

I gave 4000gb of bandwidth a month and with 10gb uplink.

Right now I'm scratching my head as why wouldn't it run smoothly? From the Support I've receive from my host, they said to raise the MaxInternetClientRate and MaxClientRate to 30000 and also lower the NetServerMaxTickRate to 20.

Set the tickrate to 41 and leave the maxclientrate at 10000 or 15000 if you set the tickrate to 20 it can cause some more problems since your connection is very very fast and it can do so much more.

I've set the tickrate to 20 like my Host suggested and that lag isn't as bad now but still happens. Problem with that is the gameplay isn't as smooth as it use to be. Not sure if increasing it from the default NetServerMaxTickRate 30 to 41 would solve the issue with the horrible lag when all 30 players cluster together and firing at 1-5 objects.
