Default Mouse wheel weapon switching

I propose a setting that would allow players to disable the mouse wheel weapon switching. Sometimes when I'm trying to melee or single shot an MG, I accidentally switch the weapon and that ruins everything.
I understand that there are sometimes bugs when you can't bring out the weapon you picked up or a weapon that's out of ammo by the number keys, but if I could disable the mouse wheel weapon switching I could deal with it. So it would be the person's choice does he/she want to take that risk of not being able to switch the weapon because of the bug.

I'm using mouse wheel to switch between weapons + sniper scope look and I use right mouse button to melee and MG single shot.

I have a key on my keyboard to zoom and sprint.

That is working perfect for me. Maybe you could try a same kind of setting to solve your problem.

Your suggestion is already in the game. You can bind your keys anyway you want. My mouse mousewheel for example is not used for weapon switching.

I have somehow managed to miss it. Thanks for the answers and sorry for the useless thread.

Mousewheel for weapon switching is one of the worst things to ever be held over from ancient PC games. Even for oldschool twitch shooters like Quake and UT, it's better to bind individual weapons to the keys by your WASD fingers, like the pros. For realistic shooters, you don't carry 10 different weapons at once, so usually 1 key to switch between rifle and grenades is sufficient.

Either way, the wheel is entirely too inaccurate for anything besides adjusting zoom levels or zero on a scope. Mousewheel swapping, even as a default, makes as much sense, and is equally outdated, as holding a key to look up and down, or holding a key to strafe left and right.

On that note, does anyone else get annoyed trying to strafe left and right while holding C to crouch? Shift FTW.

Another good use of the mousewheel is binding actions for which it does not matter if they accidently get executed more than once. For example: mousewheel up = select rmain weapon, mousewheel down, select grenade.

Nope, arrowkeys for movement and right ctrl for crouching ftw.

No, I just prefer the arrow keys. I hate how the wasd keys don't form a straight cross.

It's hilarious to me that despite the huge market and high prices for "gaming mice" and "gaming keyboards", no one has come up with a mouse that forgoes the scroll wheel for mouse buttons, and only a few keyboards have been made which combine the ergonomics and functionality of a d-pad or analog stick with the wealth of keys of a keyboard.

I finally splurged $$ on a nice gaming mouse and keyboard. Didnt think it would make a difference now I love being able to do all sorts of functions from just the mouse and dedicated seperate hotkeys on the right side of the keyboard for specific tasks.

I have my mousewheel bound to weapon switching in most FPS games, but I rarely use it - as Gnam says, its outdated and requires more effort to scroll to the right weapon than just using a key.

I might try binding MWheelUp to select primary weapon and MWheelDown to pistol or something (not grenade as I have quick throw on Mouse5).

I do this in pretty much every FPS in which it makes sense in context. I find the typical "scroll through a list of weapons" mousewheel action to so slow and imprecise as to be utterly useless. It's not real useful in RO2, though - you only rarely have a pistol, it's not exactly a quick-swap when you do, and even when you have it out, it's not stunningly useful anyway.

Plus, RO2's inventory system is crap and the only other way to switch to an alternate weapon is to tab through the one you just had in that slot, which is even slower than the stupid wheel system.

What about people like me that have no mouse wheel? *mind blown*

Does this quick throw also switch you to grenades or would you throw it and remain with your primary weapon?

I tried binding it last night and it didn't work - after doing it, my adjust iron sights range wouldn't work, and instead I ended up switching to my pistol when I wanted to set my sights to 200m

Nope, you just throw a grenade and switch back to the weapon you were holding. That seems much better to me than having to select a grenade, throw it, then switch back to your primary weapon manually.

Range adjustment is tied to the next and previous weapon functions, so you have to bind them somewhere else (like any keys on your keyboard) and use those for range adjustment.

That sucks.

It's all preference. I find range adjustment not a critical or much used function, so I'm totally fine with it being on my keyboard instead of mousewheel.

I disabled mouse wheel weapon switching. Why can't I set the sight adjusting to different keys than the weapon switching? That should be a feature in the game, like there's already the possibility to select different keys for bandaging, cover and use.
