Not having your weapon swing about is good for your concealment. Also useful to look around while moving, while maintaining your course (especially so if we ever get zoom while moving).

It sounds a bit weird for some people to have freelook button, i myself never used it in game that offered it because i couldnt perform all the actions at the same time. But if we remove the "press button" side, that's a really great feature.
I use trackir and so, in arma or drive/flight game, i dont have to hold any button to perform a freelook, i just have to turn my head a bit to look over my shoulder and see where my friends are, etc and it becomes really instictive and indispensable.

I think this would be great IF they added support for TrackIR users. I felt without TrackIR free-look was a bit of useless but thats just my 2 cents. I know TrackIR support was mentioned before release but I guess that went out the window among other things.

I think if TrackIR support w/ freelook had been advertised as a feature of RO2 ahead of time, as it was in Arma, it'd be more popular in this community. It'd definitely be nice, but like many other features discussed here we're probably just better off keeping our fingers crossed for RO3.
