Default Railway Map : Real picture

Hi guys, I was browsing a website that had nice picture of Stalingrad battle, and I found one that is pretty much exactly where you spawn as a German in the Railway map.... So I figure you folks you like to see it.
http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=9022

You will notice the tower, and the building behind, with the walk over on the right side of the tower ( you need to look carefully ) Anyway, I think the Devs did a good job making the maps no ? :P

Here is the website with over 100 pictures of the battle of Stalingrad

Aye, most stock maps are based off real encounters in real places.

If you check through the maps listed there, you can get some background history on the events that took place there. :>

As mention above, I know everything (that has been written about it ) about the battle of Stalingrad. Why do people think I dont know that these location are real just because I post a picture of it.... This is ridiculous. if I didnt know these place where real, I wouldnt have bothered to post the picture here.

But but but but, but, these are open forums, someone who's looking more into the matter themselves could look at the links too. No need to take the defensive stance and act like we're questioning your know-everything-about-Stalingrad-ness (We're not! :<).

I've contributed to an earlier thread with similar pics. I've never seen this one before though. Excellent find. The fact that it shows the German spawn makes it instantly recognizable and comparable.

Then again, you can see that TWI did a very good job in mapmaking...

Since you know everything about Stalingrad, could you tell me the exact location of the statue of Viktor Stepanovich, the pilot?

Exact location on a WW2 areal photo or maybe even on google.maps

Photo of the statue

Thanks in advance!

Seem like someone already beat me to it. But I would have probably not been able to tell myself. I read everything there is to read about stalingrad, that I could put my hands on. But that doesnt mean I know every inch of building and parcs and statue. I read about operation, battles and personal story's of soldiers. Not about location of statue's.

here is a more recent picture.

The best book I have read about the Eastern War was Guy Sajer, Forgotten Soldier, though, this is not about Stalingrad, so I would have to say ....

Stalingrad; the Turning point ( Battle Book #3). By Geoffrey Jukes. Was by far the most interesting I have read, though, a really small book. I would use this book to bring with me on the bus, or while taking a bath, things like that. Its a pocket book so you can take it anywhere you want and give details information about the battle wich I like. Its a old book though, it was written in the 1960's if im correct.

You may also want to read books written by Jason Mark, or David Glantz, they are good read also.
