So now that it has been released, will there be anything on it other than maps?
I would like to see some different character skins or models, more actual content. I am at the point where it doesn't matter what map I play, the gameplay is the same throughout, and to be honest I've grown quite tired of the game. I'm currently just holding out until some of the official mods get closer to release. |

I'm sure it would be possible to make skins or weapons and put them into the Workshop. I guess opening up the SDK and seeing whats possible would be a good start.

It could be possible, honestly for me I'm personally waiting for the vehicle mod team to release some work, and for RS to come out.
Spoiler!

The thing you have to realize is that these additions are made by the community, for free, by players giving up their time to spend hours and hours making maps and code etc. and so 'demanding' more content isn't exactly the right way to go about it. How about sending them Valentine's Day cards and asking nicely? :P

I've been stating this since the first Red Orchestra, and its lack of being able to allow player textures(or any other vanilla textures for that matter) to be changed and allowed on all of the servers. I don't know much of the Unreal Engine or how it is coded under the hood, but from what I have had to deal with it seems that everything goes through a consistency check of some sort to make sure you aren't using unauthorized files. I have had a steam account VAC banned because I had to use 3rd party means to be able to export some meshes and textures that I wanted to include in a few rendering projects I did back a few years ago. I may even still have the post on this forum if TW didn't delete it. EDIT: Here is an example - http://files.gamebanana.com/img/ss/wips/29486d.jpg I was able to export the mesh and convert it over to a .mdl that I could use in game. I had gotten it working except for the animations. It was not released publicly of coarse, I wanted it for myself :P I don't know for sure, but if I am not correct I am sure its reasons/methods similar. And with this in mind - I personally don't see real reason for having a workshop if most of the things you are downloading will only work if you can find a server that has that map or specific mutator whitelisted. Now again with this said, I have heard other things so I don't have all of the facts, but is Tripwire automatically whitelisting any content that gets approved in the workshop? Please, Link me to some content other than some mutators that add older features from Ostfront, or other maps that have not already been released. I have already looked. There are no other customizations. Last edited by Peepintom234; 12-03-2012 at 02:56 AM. |

why? those mutators are what you asked for in the first place. "will there be anything on it other than maps?" you asked a question that you already knew the answer to. why?

For one - it would add more realism to the specific map.(not all are in the same year) secondly - for tanks or other vehicles, doing retextures of them could also introduce real units that fought in the battles. such as the russian 57th or 2nd guards during the battle of stalingrad. It may not add any gameplay value but it greatly increases the immersion and customization abilities for the game. And that is one thing that I very much enjoy in a game. it took me a couple of hours to port the German and Russian uniform textures to the models of day of defeat source - and they were still of the same quality. http://i.imgur.com/iN5vK.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/dyxk9.jpg I don't really understand the resistance from you people about this idea. Its very straight forward and it should be a feature of any game(or game engine). Just look at Source games. They allow for full customization while still giving server owners the ability to run "pure" servers. ie - no consistency check. Also, I have no idea how to use the UDK, but I can say most certainly that doing minor edits like these would be much more effective and easier in the short term than what TW is doing with vehicles and maps. It doesnt take 3 months to create a simple and effective retexture. Last edited by Peepintom234; 12-03-2012 at 06:48 PM. |

- And no, I didn't answer my own question. It's too early to even say that. All I am interested in is seeing what everyone else thinks about this. Why should we have to wait a few months for a single tank or map, when we could be retexturing player meshes or weapons? They are relatively simple and add to the longevity of the game by giving more of a choice. You could have answered the other question I had asked about TW whitelisting the content. I do not know if that is the case, but if it is I see no reason to why we should not be able to do smaller customizations like this. In fact, for all I know what I want could be possible, can it not? Are we still locked out of the ability to customize the game down to player textures or weapon textures? All I am saying is that I believe that the RO2 workshop should be more like Killing Floor. If TW is going to give the RO series a workshop for custom content, why would they only lock it down to maps or server mutators? If that is their objective the whole workshop is pointless. Maps aren't mods. They are new content, unless its a remake of an already existing one. Mutators are required to be used through a server that is running them or else they would have no purpose to the general gamer. Last edited by Peepintom234; 12-03-2012 at 07:06 PM. |

lol. other than Ducky saying he doesn't think more skins would change the gameplay, no one has resisted your idea at all. just the way in which you asked the question. you ask one thing, then talk about another.
yes, there is going to be more stuff other than maps in workshop. there already is. yes, there probably will be skins we can use. if you really want to now if anyone's working on them now, the modding forum is the place to look. i personaly would love to be able to customize my avatar, but i'm not sure TWI is even going to let it happen. that kind of stuff might only work on un-ranked servers. we all know how well those are doing.

I remembered seeing a post by one of the Tripwire devs talking about how they wanted to give the community the freedom to modify the game, and how red orchestra essentially has its roots in the modding community. But now it seems they are blocking some of the better parts of what makes game customization great? Since release Heroes of Stalingrad has been nothing but lackluster in the high hopes I had for it. The game has no long term value for me, most of the leveling up I had achieved was at the blood of a bot. - that is not fun. Sounds like Tripwire is shooting itself in the foot again. Only a matter of time till they aim for their head. Last edited by Peepintom234; 12-03-2012 at 07:41 PM. |

i guess at this point, we just have to wait till someone at TWI comes along and answers your question about whitelisting. probably should have just shot Yoshi a pm.
