Squad OstFront Campaign

So im kinda new to RO, is this just one big clan match or are we trying to "virtually" reanact world war 2? Must I be in a clan to take part in this?

Yes, this is a string of matches between the realism units formed into a campaign based on Operation Barbarossa. So therefore, you have to be in one of the realism clans who are joining it to participate. The realism units are based on actual WWII units and use accurate Soviet and German ranks as well as attempting to employ real tactics in the game. It can be pretty fun if you are interested in that kind of stuff.

A full list of realism units can be found here:

Though not all the units on that list will be participating in the campaign. The competetive clans also hold matches through ROladder and such. They are more about playing than paying attention to historical detail.

One problem with realism matches and im sure you heard it a million times before is that they are very unrealistic, sending an 8-16 soldiers squad to take a well fortified fort or a bunker is ridicules.. for 1 life per round you need to design entirely new maps as it DEFIENTLY doesnt work on RO maps.

On a map, The attacker must take all the objectives to consider it a victory.
Considering that this is "efo 3", i think we have had some good battles in all and haven't had that problem (In my knowledge.)

Take a look at these battles: (tank battles, some including infantry)

I see what you mean, and in fact on some maps like Danzig, or Berezina realism matches don't work unless limited or delayed respawns are used. Now don't get me wrong, I'm also a regular on IC (BFE before that). Both styles have their ups and downs and let me tell you, I've been in some realism matchs that were SNORE FESTS.I am thinking to one point early in the 181st career we treated (or rather tortured) RTR to a match on Snowy Forest that was a HUGE SNORE FEST. The entire match consisted of neither side barely taking a shot at one another. But other times, particuarly when two well organized units are going at it. You'll find suprisingly the battles to be VERY fluid and at times very fast. And on tank maps/combined arms, its truly second to none to the ammount of fun and immersion you can have. I swear to god some of the battles we have played were something I had seen in the movie 'Stalingrad' or read in a history book somewhere. So give it a chance. Just don't downplay it on what you've heard or maybe a single remote rotten expierence you may have had at one point in time. You never know, you might just come to like it ;) Either way, different strokes for different folks right?
