So, I browsed "best of suggestions" thread once again, and my favorite part is:
My suggestion is:
Стальной Нагрудник-42 ("Stalynoi Nagrudnik", Russian for "steel breastplate") body armor as a Hero unlock for Russian engineers.
To prevent element of disbalance and kind of arcade thing, make it cosmetic upgrade only.
There were several models of body armor in the Red Army, called SN-38, SN-39, SN-40, SN-40A, and SN-42. The number denotes the design year. All were combat tested, but only the SN-42 was put in serial production.
SN-42 was designed to protect against bayonet attacks, small fragments from the explosion and a 9 mm pistol bullets with lead core, providing protection against damage from MP-38/40 from a 10m distance. Also, from a distance of 100-150m it's stand a shot from a Gewehr 41, but on condition that the bullet went on a tangent.
It consisted of two pressed steel plates that protected the front torso and groin. The plates were 2 mm (.08") and weighed 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs).
Germans are very much appreciated trophy steel breastplates and even making copies of itself (in limited quantities and only for SS troops).
SN were wore with Soviet "Amoeba" camo suit or telogreika w/o sleeves which served as an additional shock absorber.
By modern standards, SN-42 meets Type II armor level.
Stalynoi Nagrudnik is an essential part of Shturmovaya Inzhenerno-Sapernaya Bragada (eng; Assault Engineering-Sapper Brigade). These units were formed in spring-summer '43 right after Stalingrad battle and were intended to break the powerful enemy fortified defensive zones.
But the point is, these brigades were created by reorganization of active engineering units, and were made of battle hardened soldiers and high class specialists with huge combat experience.
SN-42 first appears in Red Army in 1942, and were used during Stalingrad battle.
Do you guys remember maps like Rakowice and G

Soviet marksman can select the plasch palatka (red army cloak/poncho). Link (Yes! - thanx a lot TW)
wraped rifles as achievements for Heros (was used by normal dedicated marksmen, too, not only by snipers - see Link!)
