Default Terrain Layer Problem

Hey Guys, when i created my sixth or seventh Terrain Layer and added a new Material a part of my terrain started looking like this. I don`t know if it changed after I added the Terain Layer or the new Material but if it`s necessary i`ll find it out. And when I delete the Terrain Layer everything is back to normal but when i try again to add it the problem occurs again.

How much layers do you have ? This will happen when you add to much layers
As far as I know 4 is the limit.

You can recache your terrainmaterials in the terrain editor. There is a button
with RM on it. Topright section. Lowest icon.

Explain more about a hole. Like a depth ment for craters ?
Or do you want to take away the terrain visability to add something ?

Like with most editors/programs always remember what you did.
Then do it in reverse ? Jys try most options then you deal with it the best.

Yes, i just need new textures on a little depth where i set up some mortars. And i am not that familiar with the SDK that i know how to do such things without a new terrain layer.

You can NOT have more than 12 textures in total for terrain. in any combination. Diffuser, Normal, Specularty...etc. they must total to 12.

"The combined layers on each terrain component should not exceed a total texture count of 16, with 3 used for the lightmaps and at least 1 used for the layer blend map, leaving usually 12 available textures total for the terrain layers."

You can open the materials and count the amount of texture and then mix and match!

1. Keep an eye on the number of instructions your base material has, if it gets too high (64 is max, below 48 is best) you will get a rainbow terrain.

2. If you have a few complex terrain layers, it will also go psychedelic.

3. Adding anything to the terrain (like holes, tile removing) adds in the complexity and may cause the reaction. Apparenly there is some memory limit to a single terrain actor, what it is and how it is calculated is a mystery.

4. Try deleting or changing any of the following to a simpler/less memory size alternatives: Textures that go into your (base) Material that go into your Terrain Material that go into your Terrain Layer Set Up that go into your Terrain properties. Plus Deco Layers, hieght map (grid size, scale), and textile info (flipped, hidden).

Have fun.
