New Player Guide

recently I made a post about a need for a guide on getting players started. Well I was wandering around the net looking at other games today and I found a truly excellent new player guide for the dystopia game

http://dystopia-game.com/newplayerguide/

I think the guide is good enough that I am going to take a crack at that game myself, just on the excellence of the guide!

I hope there will be such an excellent guide for ROOSTFRONT!

Dystopia is actually a great game. It sucks the demo has only one map, but then I guess that's why it's a demo. I'd definitely play it if it was gonna be free mod, but I don't think I like it enough to pay for it.

i know Wilsonam mentioned it in the last thread but here's a direct link to his manual "Red Orchestra Tactics":

http://redorchestramod.com/files/RO_Tac_Manual_Infantry_30.pdf - WARNING PDF!

I really recommend everyone to download it if your new to RO, it's really excellent and has very useful and interesting historical and technical info about guns and stuff(Way to go W!). I was looking for info about the tanks in the mod and I found it again. I remember glancing at it when I first started playing.

All the previous manuals for the previous versions of RO (i.e theMOD) are here: http://www.redorchestra.clanservers.com/manual.html

I can testify that alan's guides are a joy to read, combining period knowledge and doctrines with gameplay advice. i.e. Here's how they did it in real life, and here's how closely the game lets you do it.

From the first time I read the offical player manual that Alan wrote, to today, I have steadily seen the period advice given come closer and closer to what is possible in game. i suggest you grab the old player manual off the mod website and have a read because if you follow standard WWII doctrines now you will find it works most of the time and will help you play a lot better as well as stay alive a lot longer.

News that realworld tactics work better in the game has got me salivating.

Sounds like supressive fire will supress better (wonder how this will be implemented).

Also curious to see what's been done to grenades...

Might be nice to release some of these manuals a day or two before the planned release, so people can read up on them (as they may have nothing better to do). This way, you'll start with an influx of some people who have read the manuals, and not everyone will be running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Smart idea... for once, they'll have to be ready in good time anyway :)
