There probably won't be a pre-load. They will probably be working on the game right up until it's released.

even so a preload doesnt mean the game cant be worked on until the last second, it just means 99% of the known files cant be downloaded before. Thats why preloads exist.
So people with slow internet dont have to wait many hours for the game to download

Yeah, but will you knowing when it's going to be released have any effect on when it's going to be released?
No? So why worry about it. It will come out when it comes out and there's nothing else you can do about it, so just sit back, chill out, and download it when you can.

I think they already said they're not doing a pre-load. I recall they said "it's going to be available as soon as we tell Valve to flip the switch, and they actually do it."
Preloading would mean they have a fixed/time date on release date to flip the switch. Instead they're working up to the last minute. As soon as you see the forums fill up with people saying the beta is down....we're probably close.

The coolest thing would be that the beta is patched to the full version but thats probably not going to happen.
