Default Question about Kriegstadt map

Hello guys,

If this is not the right place to post this please forgive me, it seems to be the right place. I just wanted to know if anyone is working on a new version of the custom map created for the old Red Orchestra called KRIEGSTADT... only because I remember playing in that map a lot and I have to say it's one of the best maps I have ever played in a first person shooter... very tactical, intense fights and an amazing feeling of being conquering/defending territory, feeling of advancing or being pushed back depending on which team you were playing.

Hopefully someone is already working on this, otherwise, I hope someone gets inspired by remembering this

Here is the post showing the old version of the map for the previous RO:

Regards,

Colonel Paz

The epic map was done by the famous EvilHobo. And he will not port it into RO2.

But I think TheUnivermag from BOH-rekrut comes close to Kriegsstadt.

Has he said he won't port it? I saw that he said nobody had his permission to port it, but that doesn't mean he won't, does it? It was one of the best RO maps.

I hope we do see it again, I never had the chance really to play it on a full server, the only full ones during the last yearish was the TWB server and they didn't run it. Eventually id love to see a 'Fall Of Berlin' map pack... or update :P

There is a map that combines Königsplatz, pariser platz and Kriegstadt to one giant map but I just saw it a few times! If you search the forums you sure will find it, I can´t remember the name or the name of the thread! Sry!

Afaik EvilHobo and his clan have abandoned RO 2, so I doubt it will get ported. Of course this is only my assumption and maybe EvilHobo will participate in the map making contest.

Kriegstadt definitly was one of my all time favorites. TOP 10 RO map for sure!

It would be a REAL SHAME if only for "political" reasons the map gets lost in the sands of time forever... if EvilHob and his clan stoped playing RO2, it would be fair to release his permission to port the map into RO2 anyway, a lot of people will be grateful (me included).

As for other releases on this mapping subject (fall of berlin to be precise) I have a very nice and decently detailed book about the Fall of Berlin with maps, descriptions, etc.... so if any mappers need some support material, I can be of a bit of help I suppose.

Kriegstadt was one of my all-time favorite maps for RO. I would love to play it in RO2, but EH made the map, and if for whatever reason he decides not to port it, it is his property and his business.

Maybe you can use some of that research material you have and design an all new map that we haven't seen before.

Not to be an arse or anything of that nature, but it IS public domain. It's a matter of etiquette really that stops one LD from working on another person's design. I'd suggest distilling the "fun" from the map and roll your own design.

Uuuh this might be my Dutch cleverness. But Berlin had many streets and there where many fights. These Russians didn´t attack through these street only.

When one would would make a similar map from another attack route it would almost feel the same and it wouldn´t be a port.

I'm very sad to hear Kriegstadt will not be making an encore appearance in RO2. In 16+ years of gaming, Kriegstadt stands out as easily the most epic (and re-playablely epic) FPS experience.

On top the many hurdles faced by any historical recreation gaining complete copyright, most game manufacturers retrain reservations concerning derivative works in their EULA/TOS. I dont know if RO did or did not do so.

Additionally, you cannot copyright world war two or any fact from it. The layout of the streets, the uniforms, buildings etc. are all period features that are open to use by anyone.

I hope someone does remake epicness of Kriegstadt for RO2.

Well, I just downloaded the Univermag B4 map from Rekrut, and there is a file named Props_KriegstadtB31.upk. Is this a sign of a remake??? I hope, I never was able to experience the first RO
