Balancing out the prototypes

I'm going to make this short and simple. In my opinion the balance between the Mkb42 and the Automatic Vintovka Tokareva 40 is has gone out of control and I'd like to give my input on how this can be fixed.

Why these weapons are currently unbalanced
1:Assaults now have the capacity to engage at range.
This is a problem for both sides. Not only are you giving every single Russian assault a semi-auto on long range maps with the ability to go full auto whenever he wants. You're also giving Germans even better treatment at medium to close range.

2:The AVT-40 is almost worthless at close range.
It's long, the recoil is everywhere and it's clearly not meant for ''Assaulting'' anything.

3:It puts the advantage in favor of the axis.
A majority of the maps do not have firefights at above 100 meters, the rest is quite obvious.

4:It's unrealistic.
Again, this is uneven on both sides.
The Mkb42 and MP43-44 was not commonly not given out to close combat specialists for the simple reason that they were not trained to fight at long range. If anything it was given out to riflemen because riflemen were the first to engage and therefor it would be the most use.

Similarly the AVT-40 was not given to assault troopers but to riflemen, as it was not to be used for close quarters but to supplement long range firepower.

5:It's also not fun.
Nowadays I only ever see teams stacked towards axis. Why? Because everyone wants the Mkb42 and if not then they don't want to be on the receiving end of it.

It's for these reason above that I believe that the Mkb42 and AVT-40 should only be accessible to Elite Riflemen. It's historically accurate, balanced and above all, fun.

if you learn how to handle the recoil instead of just shooting it once then nagging on the forums you'd know that anyone hiding in cover gets ****ing annihilated with the avt. i pwn people at close range all the time just can't hold down the fire button, like Rambo if you do you'll pay. the weapon is very powerful in capable hands. heres my solution i think yours is on the right track but more changes should be made so that it works better. eite rifleman idea sounds good but i think it could be done better.

all hero unlocks the snipers included should disappear much faster than the other weapons making them less likely to be picked up by the masses. that way possible 3 or 4 guys can have them and there won't end up being 20 guys having them.

squad leaders and commanders do not get such weapons if i have a powerful weapon i won't be commanding as im to important to use it. (even if its not completely historically accurate it works the best for game-play.)

next an idea of how the hero should work. would be to implement a hero class that wouldn't be an actually class but basically it gives you access to choose any class and the classes hero weapons will be choose able. assuming you have them unlocked. or maybe you want to play with the normal weapons your choice. ;):D you get the benefits of heroes either way. (the better caping etc...) you would get the hero class at random by being the best player on the map or having the most points or something like that as twi said they wanted to do in the first place.

these are my ideas. :)

I agree 100%. I was much happier with RO2 during the first few days after release when the DE unlocks weren't working. I felt that the weapons and classes were fairly well balanced and had their own respective advantages and drawbacks. The MKB has no real weaknesses, however. It's highly effective at against any target within 100m and beastly up close.

Giving it to Elite Riflemen makes a lot of sense, as you've demonstrated. I'd much rather see it limited to 3 per game rather than 6.

This guy is VERY right!

ATV and MKB should for Elite Rifleman ONLY.

Maybe make them available to Assault on Relax realism, because they are very fun weapons and people want to use them.

Also, make them not the default selection when unlocked. Making the more commonly used weapon of the battlefield the default selection brings more authenticity, as many people choose a class and go as uooped to editing the load out.
The semi auto was MUCH more common (though still very rare) than these Fully auto proto-types. :)

Alright, I should probably clarify what I meant by worthless in close quarters.

The AVT-40 is in fact firing 10 large caliber rounds with very high recoil with any one of these rounds being capable of killing someone in hit. The reason why it's worthless in my opinion is that it's very difficult to change targets in room clearing scenario and be effective.

Either you've fired most of your rounds at the first target and don't have enough to get the second or you've let that short mag gotten to your head and have died because you didn't react fast enough.

I will however give you that it's very effective in narrow spaces such as halls and doorways.

I posted this in another thread that died thereafter.

The AVT and MKB are not competitors at all. They are truly two completely different types of weapon. The AVT shats all over the MKB at range and is a bit more manageable in CQC if you dare versus it's semi auto buddies. The MKB is easier to use in close, but at ranges it isn't really that one shot instadeath making weapon unless you headshot basically every time. Honestly, from 50m out I'll take the AVT every time.

The AVT isn't garbage - or else I am simply some sort of freak. I still say the two shot burst you get by leaving the thing on automatic is quite handy even on a gun that kills in 1. You'd be surprised how many "zombies" you kill in one swoop.

The best solution IMHO is to create a new class, call it "Specialist" or whatever. Two slots on a 64 man team, take one slot from Assault, one from Elite Rifleman. Default weapons will be SMGs and the Semi autos, with the autorifles being "unlocks" as they kinda have to keep them that way with the DDE version. Want to be an assault? Be a SMG assault guy. Rifleman? Use em as extra rifleman slots. Or, use the autos to play both at once.

Plus, it would actually make an effect, in theory you could take an "extra" assault or rifleman which could be handy in certain situations. You don't "gain" automatics on the battlefield though as we would take a class slot from two classes with semi/autos.

Battlefield commissions will make sure that everyone at one point or another gets to give it a whirl just like the Marksman class - another limited numbers kit.

These weapons don't fit in either category truly. So let's get them their own class!

Anything that takes more "rare" weapons off the battlefield I'm all for. The vast majority of opinion seems to be to want these "rare" weapons (rightly) restricted as severely as is mechanically allowable. Moving them into the preserve of only the Elite Rifleman role seems to be a simple and elegant solution (short of removing these weapons from the game entirely which, let's be honest, probably won't happen).
